I have an adorable 8 month daughter at home that refuses baby food and would rather eat what we are eating. I started making my own baby food for her, and she loves it, now when I offer her jar food, she will NOT even open her mouth!! So lately I've been giving her applesauce, fresh veggies cut up, she even likes Ravioli!!! My question to all you moms is - what other "people" foods can I give her? I even made her french toast for breakfast w/out egg white, and I used banana and apple juice - she loved it!! But I need more ideas of safe foods to give an 8 month old baby. Oh, and she still gets at least 24 oz. of formula, so I'm not worried about that.
THanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well everyone's suggestions were just wonderful and very helpful!! I didn't know they could have cheese and yogurt already! So, I made a shopping list, and I'm going grocery shopping tonight for some variety of things for Kallie!! I'm so happy to know that there are so many things out there she can have and I can stop buying baby food (since she refuses to eat it anyway!!) Another plus to this, we as a family, seem to be eating healthier too b/c of what I prepare for the baby. I don't season w/salt anymore and we are eating more fresh fruits and veggies too! Thanks moms!!!

I had the same problem with my daughter. She just turned a year old, and can eat most things now, but a few months ago we went through the same thing. Macaroni and Cheese was a big hit, I just cut it up small, and gave her a few noodles at a time. Also, you may want to try 3rd foods, like the lasagna or spagetti. They have small chunks and are more like our food. Gerber fruit puffs are great as well. They disolve almost instantly so the risk of choking is small. I would give my daughter 1/2 jar of a 3rd foods baby food with a little bit of our food in between bites. It worked well. Good luck!!

It sounds just like my son. Went from Rice cereal to table food! You are doing a great job! Veggies (from broccoli to green beans to sweet pea's and carrots) Ethan loves squash and the warmed artichoke spinach dip! Cheese is a good snack, yogurt, baked or pan seared Chicken breast cut up in fine pieces. Ethan loves the graduates Chicken franks in the jar (found with baby food) We cut them up and just let him go. He loves rice or pasta (with a little butter or cheese to flavor it up) It's all trial and error but remember to keep it balanced and you're home free.

Both my kids wanted nothing but table food early as well. We ended up just grinding much of what we ate for them. They can eat lots of other soft stuff too. Soup, potatoes, pasta, soft fruits and veggies, rice, beans, crackers, cereals. We would even mash up the casseroles we ate as long as there was nothing they shouldn't eat in them.

both my kids did the same thing. they were off baby food by 9months. some things my kids eat where & are: fruit cut uo(watermelon, banana, pears, peaches.) can veggies, chicken nuggets, chicken breast(cut very fine), mac n cheese, rice, any kind of noodles, yogurt, spagetti o s, nutra grain fruit bars, eggo waffles, muffins. my son is 14 months and still eats the gerber graduate stuff.(fruits, crackers, puffs, meals, soups, etc...) she can basically eat what ever you are eating just make sure its cut up small for her.(sixe of a cherrio). good luck to you!!!

All the responses are wonderful!!! I think it's great to feed your baby real food, afterall there wasn't always such a thing as "baby food" When my kids were at that stage the hardest thing was the meat, so I gave them lots of beans. They loved them and still do. Kidney beans, black beans, pinto, garbanzo even refried beans with a little cheese in them, all are a great source of protein for babies.

My daughter is now 9 1\2 months old and we started table food just when she turned 9 months. When we went to her 9 month check up he told me I'll write down for you what she CANNOT have but everything else she can have. He said DO NOT give her peanuts, hotdogs, peanut butter, honey, whole milk, eggs by thereself(if cooked with them they are fine). Everything else was a go ahead. Now what he told me to do with every food even baby food is introduce one new food for 3 days because if they are allergic the allergy will take 3 days to show up and I can't tell how true that is. My daughter was allergic to peas so I 'm glad I listened to that advice. So far I gae my daughter cut up lunchmeat, steak, chicken, cheese, sweet potatoes, I boil squash and spray it with spray butter(she loves that). I also recommened but it's not necessary the Gerber Graduates becuase if you are pressed for time at home all you do is feed her right out of the can and it's like big people food. Ha Ha. I buy those alot. The way I think of it is why try at times to hurray up and make something when I'm already doing a bunch of things so I like to buy hose. Oh, I almost forgot, no strawberries or anything with seeds obviously. Anything made with honey is okay but honey alone is no good. Good lick and it sounds like you have a good start.N.

L.,

I used this small attachment for my blender but a mini food processor (they're pretty cheap now too) is great. Whatever we ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is what our children ate. I never looked for "kid" foods to give them. I never wanted them to be picky eaters or only eating burgers, dogs, pizza, grilled cheese, ch nuggets, etc. They never thought anything about what they were eating cause we were eating it and now they are healthy eaters who love their fruits and veggies. Not that there arent foods that either of them just cant stand, but as a whole they're pretty open.

Feeding them what we ate was sooo much easier than making or finding them something different and I believe they're healthier for it too.

Good luck and go with your instincts :o)
