I have started noticing that when I breast feed my baby she likes to pull on her hair. Today I started seeing that she was pulling out her hair in little clumps. Any ideas on what I should do.

What can I do next?

Maybe she's teething? My kids both tugged on their ears and the hair around their ears when they were teething and nursing.

Hey L.. My daughter did the same thing when I was breastfeeding her. She would just reach up and grab a clump of her hair and slowly pull on it. I agree that it may just be a comfort thing that she will probably outgrow as my daughter did. What I did was when she was doing that, I would just take her hand and gently pull it away and let her hold onto my finger and she was usually content to just hold onto it. Sometimes she'd try to reach back to grab her hair again, but I could usually distract her pretty easily from doing it by offering my finger or her security blanket. Hope that helps. Good luck!

It's possible that her hair is naturally falling out. My daughter had a full head of hair when she was born and by her 6th month she was practically bald. She grew new hair very quickly and at 9 months had enough to put a bow in her hair again. She would pull at her hair when I nursed her and when she started taking a bottle too. She did it for comfort, I would put my finger in her hand so she would hold it and that would work most of the time. She seemed to need something to hold on too. She also would grab at her blanket which she now instist on having to sleep. She sucks on the corners. I have a blankie baby for sure.

It may be that it's loose and falling out and you are noticing it more because she has your undivided attention. You can always ask your Dr. or his nurse what they think but it's normal for their hair to fall out after they are born.

My 7 month old pulls her hair when nursing, also. I just remove her hand and tell her no, don't pull your hair. She goes back to it, but quits when I say (with my help). I think it can be just helping them not form a habit. She also loves to pull my hair and suck her thumb, so I think it just must be a form of comfort I don't want her to keep, hence the NO!

It might be a comfort thing. I know my son right now, 13 months is pulling on his hair, ears and rubbing his jaw b/c he is teething. I think his whole head hurts.
But a baby as young as yours could simply be pulling for comfort. ?? Could be teething?
I wouldnt worry too much. :)
Good Luck!!

i used to go to church with a women who has 10 kids and with her first girl ( number 6 i think ) her daughter would always play with her hair and then one day she can to church and had her daughter's head shaved like the boys and after a few weeks we asked why. Well her daughter started pulling out her hair and so they cut her hair so short she couldnt pull it and after about 4 or 5 months her daughter had long hairer hair again and her daghter stopped pulling on it.
