G.T.
It's a process. What he gags on this week he'll swallow perfectly next week. Just watch the consistency because he's just now getting used to swallowing heavy foods.
My 8 month old little boy will eat just about any kind of baby food and the gerber yogurt, but when I try to feed him something a little heavier like mashed potatoes or something like that he gags until he vomits. How can I get him to eat heavier foods?

My 9 month old has the same problem. I just make it thinner for now. You can probably wait a couple weeks and try again. Or gradually increase the thickness of things. He'll get it. Good luck!
could be texture sensitive , but i found out later in life my son was tongue tied and had issues with food like this for quite awhile , or could be sensory issues....most likely it is just what was posted by the other moms...but things to watch out for anyways.
Looks like you should put your expectations of what he needs to eat on the shelf and pick it back up next month. He's trying to let you know he's not ready.
