He will eat as much as he needs. Are you giving him cereal? I'm assuming he's eating jar food as well.
All he needs is a quarter size serving.
If he starts losing weight, start worrying, but he's fine.
Hi I have a question about my 8 month old. The last few days he is very uninterested in taking his formula. Normally he sucks it down like I have never fed him before. When he does drink it, it takes forever. Sometimes he will take an ounce and start moving around and want to sit up or get down. He did have his second tooth peek through yesterday. I am just wondering if I should be worried since he is not getting his full ounces every day, these last few days.
it is from Teething! A few days later he got back to eating again! Thanks for your imput!

Don't worry , he will eat when he is hungrey. Give him the food or bottle and if he doesn't want it fine. Maybe some juice. He might just have a upset tummy from teething.
Its all good, believe me , babies will not starve them selves.

I would say that it is probably from the teething that he is so different. I would not feed him if he didn't want it though. Is he showing any other signs - fever or anything??? Make sure he gets some water though. I had a Dr for a landlord once and he said as long as a child gets a teaspoon of water an hour, they will stay hydrated. When an infant isn't eating properly - there is a reason. His reaction to teething (a lot of babies reaction to teething) may be an upset tummy. If he stays hydrated, he will get through everything just fine. The formula might be a little to heavy on an upset tummy. If it persists without another tooth promising to come through, a Dr's visit is going to be needed. Good luck & God bless!

If he is getting solids of any kind, plus the little that he's drinking, he's getting enough fluid not to get dehydrated. But look for the signs: lethargy, skin that "sticks" together when you gently pinch it - if it's his tooth, try this trick that MY mom did when I was teething (and it worked for my kids). Saturate a clean washcloth with water (lots of it). Put it in a plastic bag in the freezer, or even the refrigerator. After a few hours, it gets really cold or frozen. Let the little guy suck on the wash cloth. It feels good and he's getting some fluid.
Sometimes as they get older they may need a nipple with less or more flow. For both my children, as they got a little older I would change either the nipple or bottle.
Hi my brother was 10 months old when he had this problem so I dont know if your baby is too young but it is worth a shot. Anyway at ten months my brother just decided that he did not want a bottle anymore. My parents gave him a sippy cup filled with formula and he was very happy. They but sippy cups with handles on either side to make it easier to hold. I would just buy one and see how it works. You just have to keep trying things until you find what works for your baby.
Sometimes when they are teething, they don't nurse/feed as well..it's uncomfortable. Both my kids were like that.
But, to rule out anything else, talk with your Pediatrician.
Yes, you want to make sure he is getting enough intake, and not getting dehydrated. Dehydration in babies is not good.
Take care and good luck,
~Susan

Kids do tend to go through short periods when they don't want to eat. It could be a number of things the tooth, new found mobility, stress from a change in routine, etc. This is probably nothing to worry about, of course if there is anything else that seems wrong or it continues too much longer (a week/week and a half?) than you may want to talk to a Dr. Is he eating any solids? He may be more interested in that. If he isn't you may consider trying some.
Good luck!
He could be ready to be weaned. Offer him fluids through a cup, sippy cups are fine but if he's teething it will hurt like his bottle. Just be sure to offer him something every hour and he will be fine. Fluids also include strained fruits, jello, ice pops etc. good luck
My husband always likes to point out that us moms always want a definitive reason for why our children are doing certain things. I don't think anything's wrong with that. However, my husband does have a point. Just when we think we have our children figured out, they do something different. We can hypothesize the reasons and make good guesses but we may never know what they're really doing. My husband's point of view... if it's really interfering with the health of the child, talk to the pediatrician. If not, take a deep breath and know that your child will be fine.
To address your specific concern: I do home daycare and have seen this happen several times. It never lasts very long and if it does, talk to your Dr. Sometimes a child just doesn't need as much food for a couple days (just like us adults). Sometimes, the child ends up with a stomach bug. We just don't really know. Unless it starts disturbing his growth, try to realx. It'll be ok. (I know, easier said than done).
My son does the same thing when he is getting a tooth.
in my opinion, i think he is due to his teething. both my kids would either lose their appetite or their eating habits would change when they were their teeth were breaking through. are you giving him anything for the teething discomfort, like infant tylenol or teething tablets? you may want to call your pediatrician to see what he/she suggests you should give him for it, if you haven't already. maybe you can administer it just before a bottle so that when he is drinking his bottle it isn't bothering as much and he will be able to take most or all of the bottle. good luck!
maybe try a sippy cup?
D.,
He might not be interested in the bottle anymore. Try to teach him how to use a sippy cup. All of my children were weaned from the bottle at nine months. They feel more grown up and like the independence.

Don't worry, mom. Make sure the nipple doesn't taste like something yucky (hand lotion for instance) and just let him go. My first daughter weaned herself from BF (I was devastated) because she was too busy to sit still and nurse. She just wanted to crawl around and be busy, which is easier to do with a bottle. He will drink it when he is hungry.
(just be sure that you find all the bottles that he leaves under the sofa as he crawls around...)
maybe his tooth is bothering him. my daughter did the same thing when she would cut teeth. what i used was the gentle naturals teething drops. just continue to offer your son fluids in between meals so he gets enough for the day. good luck!
They go through this several time either their teeth hurt or they want more solid food, more interesting... or their bodies aren't requiring as much with growth. They know what they need, don't force feed.
