My 7 month old little boy is causing lots of problems with nursing and taking his pumped milk (he has never had formula, other then mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with his cereal). He started eating solids about 3 weeks ago and ever since that he is not willing to take a bottle from anyone at all. He gets really mad and refuses to take it. Right now he is only nursing 3 times a day. When he wakes up, around 5pm, and before he goes to bed. 9pm, and sometimes in the middle of the night(if it is a must and insists on eating before going back to sleep), but not a lot lately, he is sleeping through the night, Yeah!!!!. He eats twice a day around noon and 7pm, and eats alot. He will eat rice cereal, or oatmeal, and a fruit and veg baby food square (gerber). He loves to eat his food. The problem is that I must be with him at those three times to nurse him without taking a bottle and sometimes I have something else I'd like to do at night without him. HELP! Don't normally kids refuse the breast not the bottle???

What can I do next?

Its ok, I am going through that right now and when my son won't take the bottle I work with him with the tippy. He learns that and gets the milk that he needs. Hope it helps abit to know that you are not alone and maybe that will work for you. Good luck

My son would NOT take the bottle-ever! He nursed until he was 15 months. I just went straight to a sippy cup. You may have to put your wants on hold for another few months. Just remember that this is a special time with him and you will never experience it again. My son is six now and I would love to revisit his babyhood. Good luck!

I had the same issue. Numerous people tried to give my daughter a bottle to no avail. My problem was that she took a bottle and then I slacked off and just nursed her. She wouldn't go back to the bottle.

They recommend you find someone experienced with getting a baby to take a bottle. I was so stressed out on my daughters first day of daycare because she would not take a bottle. My experienced sweet daycare mom knew how to make it happen... patience, distractions, take a break and go back to it. It took her about 1 1/2 hours, but my daughter finally did it. That was it and she took the bottle from that point on.

I think it's not out of the ordinary for a baby to refuse a bottle. He prefers the breast and he likes to be with you. Since he's not taking a bottle he probably needs those extra fluids during the night when he wakes up. You could try putting milk for him in a sippy cup rather than in a bottle. If you want to make it to breastfeeding for a year, you're probably going to have to just be with him at bedtime or maybe you'll have to feed him during the night, even if you don't want to. Five months left until he's a year old... it's not that much time in the grand scheme of things. Good luck!

My daughter did that also and I kept pushing the bottle, she finally started taking the bottle again... but,now she won't take a sippy cup. The doctor told me when they are refusing a bottle or breast its because they are ready to move on to the next stage. I would just give him the sippy cup and then hopefully you won't the issues I am having now with getting rid of the bottle.
