7 Year Old Daughter with Vaginal Discharge

About a week and a half ago my daughter had a very light pinkish in color discharge in her underwear. She was curious about it, but not freaked out (although, I was a bit!) I did call the doctor and he said that some girls just have an "estrogen surge" around this age and it was likely no big deal. Since then, the discharge has lessened, but is now a bit more yellowish and crusty when it dries. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their girls? My daughter hasn't even lost her first baby tooth yet and is very slight in build. Thank you!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for the responses! I started my period at 11, but my daughter just turned 7 in November and it seemed so early to me for any kind of pre-puberty stuff to be going on. I don't remember anything happening with me until it actually started. One of those things I would ask my mom about if I could :(

I think this is just normal vaginal cleansing. There is a great book that is mostly about fertility but it has pictures of many different things that we don't normally discuss with our girlfriends, like this topic. Here it is:

All I can say (I have all boys) is that when I was little I developed early (I was developing breasts at the age of 7 or 8) and I have always had a fair amount of discharge. I am not sure, maybe it has been a lot - I don't know how to compare these things, it's not something people really talk about - but it's always been the way you describe hers - for my whole life. I've never had a singel female realted health problem - and "developing early" didn't amount to anything either. My mom was sort of freaked out about it though.

Yes, this is very normal, pre-pubescent activity and he hormones start to rev up and practice before puberty.

Perhaps buy some very thin pads to place in her underwear when she notices the next surge, which will be again around 9 years of age. At that point you'll notice some nipple development, and light pubic hair.

I had that at that age, started my period at 10 (and that was 25 years ago), and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but won't be surprised if my daughter does too. Unless she is complaining of pain or itching, it is pretty normal in my experience. You might want to start having little bits of a "talk" about why, and how her body is changing, just tell her what she needs to know right now.

If there is ever concern, march your self in there and find out! That's what they get paid for, at least for your piece of mind. My daughter will be 6 next month and sometimes she does have discharge. My son is 16 so this little girl stuff is new to me! I figure that is normal but if it was bloody I would be a little more concerned. All these things happen much earlier it seems. My neice started her period at 10! I couldn't believe it. As long as there are no other concerns, I would venture to say normal. IM no doc though! Good luck mama!
