C.S.
I have had 3 c-section babies and none of them had a choking incident. They are all in their 20s now. I would suggest you get a second or third medical opinion. It sounds real scarey!
When my daughter was born she would choke all the time on flem, so we would have her sllep in her swing most night, well when she about 3 months it stop but now it is happening again, now I can not go to sleep without worrying about her choking and when I asked the doctor about it he said that it was because she was a c- section baby, but is it affecting her now at 7 months, anyone else have or had this problem?
Thank you to everyones response we are going to go and see a ent doctor and an allgerist- thank you so much

How about trying Saline Spray (used as drops in each nostral 3x daily) This is a suggestion that I have proven correct by my MD. Stuffy noses/nasal congestion lays in the nose where we can only aggrevate with a suction.. Believe me after 2 doses, my daughter didn't spit up flem and slept through the night. Also, I would think if a pacifier is being used take it out as soon as the baby falls asleep.
Good luck
J.,
First of all, if your doctor is kind of ignoring this situation, I would recomend finding another doctor. At the age of 7 month, there is no reason related to the C Section that your baby would be waking up with phlegm in her throat and choking. The rationale behind that and a C-section is that when the baby is pushed out naturally, the lungs get kin of smushed and in the process, gunk is expelled out and is not left in the lungs...the doctor saying that this is related is ridiculous!
If you are truly afraid of sleeping because of it, then it is serious...get another opinion.

I would get a second opinion. I had 2 c-sections. My first daughter had reflux and needed medicine and a special formula from 2 months to 8 months. Reflux normally clears up and goes away around 7-8 months old.
Some cases though can go longer. My second c-section had no issues like that at all.
I would get a second opinion on reflux.
Good luck
Hi J.....
My 2 1/2 yr old daughter starting doing the same thing for the past two wks or so. My daughter starts choking and coughing out of a sound sleep. My thought was it might be the pollen as it is unseasonably high this year. Just a thought.....
I dont really know much about what your dd is going through. I had a c-section baby and she didnt not have those issues. ALthough it has been said that because a csection baby does not go throught the pressure of the birth canal the fluid doesnt get squeezed out..... with that said (which I am sure you already know) - what about propping her crib mattress up... ie: using a thin pillow under her mattress (my pedi recommended this when my LO was sick)
My son is almost 3 and he went through the same thing. He also was a c-section baby and was always very stuffy as a little baby, I thought he would grow out of it but the same thing he stopped for a little bit and then change of season it would act up again. Every spring it would act up and would last until the fall, he does a little better in the winter. Every nap and every time I would put him to bed for the night her would fall asleep and then wake up throwing up and it was all phlem. I felt that same way you did about putting him to bed, you just hope that they aren't going to choke, I found that a humidifier helped to a point and I even tried a vaporizer, they seemed to help a little. He was on a pillow and I even tried to put a wedge under his mattress but that just made him roll to the other end of the crib. I brought him to the doctor so many times and they just said he was a stuffy kid. They gave him an inhaler and he had to have a couple nebulizer treatments (sp?), they even put him on Zantac. The Zantac helped a lot but it was still happening, but not as much. So finally after one night of changing him and his bedding three times I called the doctor and told them I was going to make an allergy appt. This was just recently, when we took him we finally found out , after every one telling us that he had a cold or that he was just stuffy I even had someone tell me that he has asthma, that he is allergic to dust and weeds. It was a relief to finally find out and get him on the correct meds. He is much better now, I know that your daughter is young but you might want to see about getting her tested.
I would suggest you ask for a consult with an ENT and make sure that everything is ok. I have had 4 children by section and 2 are special needs. If a child is choking on phlem is sounds more like a structural issue. Sounds like your pedi doesn't quite believe your concern....
It sounds like allergies to me. My daughter experienced the same symptoms between 3 and 5 and it was post nasal drip. You could try Benedryl to help dry her up but definitely keep her head raised. It helps with the drainage. If it continues, I would definitely see an allergist. And personally, I would find a new doctor. Good Luck!
my son had/has similar issues. He has extremly abnormal ashtma symptoms. they had tested him for acid relux and gi issues 9some still not ruled out) but dont rule out very bad asthma or cyctic fibrosis...
Hi J. -
Have they checked your daughter for reflux? They can easily treat that with perscription strength Zantac or Prilosec. You should ask your Ped about it. Look it up on line for symptoms and see if you think it fits, but it sounds like it might. Best of luck!

Hi J.
You may want to ask your doctor about acid reflux. It may not be flem she's choking on, but the contents of her stomach coming up.
Why does she have so much flem? doe she have allergies? I think you need to see a nose throat and ear specialist to find out what is going on with her that she has so much flem.
I mean, I have a ton of flem, but I have a ton of plant/tree allergies. If she does have allergies you will need to look into that..you are never to young for allergies ;-)
Have you tried a humidifer in her room? that could help..but you should look into what the cause is.
Call your Pedi and ask about a referal
My osn was tested last summer (he is 5) and we foudn he had allergies we had not idea aobut (shellfish, mice..dog spit!) I am getting tested next week so I can focus on what I am allergic too.
Good Luck!
The phlegm at this point shouldn't have anything to do with the C-section. I'd question the doctor on not taking this seriously. If she can't clear out that phlegm after all this time, something is wrong. Could be allergies, could be other things. I would put my child on Reliv kids' product right away to clear up all that congestion and get the immune system functioning - it's safe, patented and available through distributors, many of them stay at home moms. Developed by the same scientist who did ProSoBee and Enfamil, and it has DHA which is "brain food" plus all the vitamins and other nutrients she could ever need, all in the right balance. It's a powder you mix in liquid like milk, breast milk, water, etc. Absolutely the best thing to help the body heal itself. Let me know if you need more info.
