7 Month Old Won't sleep.....Teething

Hey ladies, I will try to keep this long story short. My baby used to sleep pretty good, until we went to Houston over Labor Day. He now fights naps (but does sleep) and at bedtime, he does go down. However, when we go to bed he wakes up and is up for 2 hours. I am so tired of not going to bed until 12 or 2. I know he is teething, so how much of this do I count for that? He used to go to bed and fall asleep on his own. He didn't really like to be rocked, but now we have to rock him to sleep every time and fight him to sleep at nap time. I am not sure what to do to get him to sleep at night. After he finally goes down (in the middle of the night) he does sleep for several hours. I have tried letting him sleep late, getting him up early, more naps, and less naps, but they all have the same outcome. I am not a fan of the cry out method, but I am willing to try anything if it will help. I am not sure how the cry out method works and it breaks my heart to hear him cry for so long. I have been putting him in his bed and checking on him every 15-20 minutes, but an hour later he is still crying. Any advise on what might (or will) work would help.

Thanks a lot!

My 7 month old is doing the same thing. Her first tooth finally erupted last week and she slept better for a few nights. Now the second one is working it's way up and she's up every few hours again. I just give her a little orajel and she goes back down. Or if it's real bad I'll give her the recommended dose of Tylenol.

Hang in there!

We just went through this our little one. She is nine months old. I apply the nighttime version of the baby Orajel before she goes to sleep. I have cut out the long morning nap because she was going to bed later and later or would go to sleep early and then wake up for a couple of hours too. She usually gets a blended early afternoon nap now.

I give her a bottle before I put her down at night too. (Not to keep in the bed, but to drink before she goes to bed.) If it is her bedtime- between 8:30 and 9:00 is where she functions the best- then I put her down. If she starts crying, I go in after 5 minutes, soothe her by patting her on the back and put her back on her back if she has stood up. Then if she keeps crying I go back in after 10 minutes and do the same soothing routine. Again at 15 minutes, etc. You might read or watch the DVD for "The Happiest Baby on the Block" as they have some great techniques to teach your baby to soothe himself to sleep. Good luck.

IF he's just teething, talk to the pediatrician about givin him baby Motrin at bedtime - that is the most effective for tooth pain. Also, Hyland's has homepathic teething drops (you can dissolve before giving to baby). The liquid motrin is the most effective I've found for tooth pain.
