mama mia! My 7 month old wants to eat EVERYTHING. He is breastfed except for those crunchy cheesy things made by Gerber. Do you think he is too young for those??? He has 2 bottom incisors. I found him eating one that his brother dropped one day and he was so good at it I just kept giving them to him. Only thing is he wants to eat everything, he literally drools and leaps to get at our Big Guy food. Yesterday I found him gnawling on his brothers pizza crust, today while daddy placed him on the floor next to his brothers sandwich he was gnawling on that looking at me like. not to mention all the other things I have pulled out of his mouth as he was gagging and scaring me to death. Ahhhhh! I have never had an exclusively breastfed baby before and I am ok if he wants to wean but ...!!!!he won't eat baby food!!! he hates it. I have tried bananas and carrots for a couple weeks then I went to peas and sweet potatoes and No good. He just doesnt want mushed up stuff in his mouth. I did give him some boiled cubed sweet potato the other day and he seemed to like it at first and then not at all. Anyone else had a baby do this and how did you transition?

What can I do next?

I never gave my son pureed baby food. For example, if we were eating green beans, I'd cut them into tiny pieces. We did that with whatever we were eating. (we made sure to not salt his food) He was self feeding by 7 months and never did like baby food. Instead of the cheese things (which have zero nutritional value) why not give him shreds of actual cheese? Also, my son never liked his veggies boiled. He preferred me to bake his sweet potatoes and steam the veggies.

My youngest also never ate baby food. My oldest did for a long time but the second one only wanted what we were having. He started eating table food (cut very small) at about 6 or 7 months. He didn't even have his first tooth until 8.5 months so teeth don't really matter. Just make sure what you are giving him is soft or easily mushed and a small size. Think of it this way...you don't have to spend all that money on expensive baby food and you will know exactly what he is eating:)

he also could be teething and want to sink his teeth into tsomething
we used frozen waffels as long as you don't let them thaw too much. or gram crackers. they kinda suck and gum them and seems fine.

Have you tried the baby food yourself? Then you would know why baby doesn't want it :). He is old enough (4-6 months) to start solids. We started by pureeing or mashing single ingredients that we were eating - peas, avocado, banana, peaches, apples (cooked till soft). You can cut the soft foods up into small pieces so he won't choke but they should still be soft at this age. He may need to try a new food up to 16 or 17 times before deciding he likes it. The majority of his calories should still come from breast milk for the first 12 months.
