7 Month Old BM

My 7 month daughter hasn't had a BM in a few days (I'm not even sure how long to be honest). She's exclusively breastfed other than her solids. Before starting solids about 6 weeks ago she would only have 1 or 2 BMs a week. I know this can be normal for exclusively breastfed babies, but I expected they would come more regularly when she started solids. She was having trouble going a few weeks ago but the last few BMs I didn't even know happened until it was done. She doesn't seem uncomfortable or like she needs to go. I offer her water throughout the day but she doesn't drink much. I've also been giving her peaches or pears every day since that always helped to move things along with my first. Any other suggestions? Should I be worried?

What can I do next?

As always with little ones like this, if you feel like something is wrong then call the pediatrician. We, as moms, don't always know, and that's okay.

I would say that there's no reason to be worried unless she's showing signs of illness. Depending on what soilds your feeding her & how much could be causing the constipation. For example potatoes and/or too much cereal will do this. You can give her a little bit of prune juice if you really want to make her go.

If she's acting fine then don't worry. And really she doesn't need water. Breastmilk provides the liquids she needs. You can offer it to her for practice with a cup but don't be concerned if she doesn't take in much.

Bananas and rice are both constipating! I recommend prunes too--and my son even loved them. Try oatmeal more than rice. Keep up the breastmilk, too!

I would give her some prunes...They have several varieties, prunes with blueberry, prunes with apples etc...see if that helps. If not, call the pediatrician.

It's always best, I think, to give your pediatrician a call. One thing I learned the hard way with my first right around this age was that bananas are constipating. So if you're feeding her bananas you may want to cut back or stop until she's having regular bowel movements again. Hope this helps. Best wishes...

It's kind of the opposite. Giving solids can make them go less. I honestly wouldn't worry unless she seems uncomfortable. And since you're still breastfeeding, nurse more! It's a natural laxative. It's more effective than water.

Warm prune juice and watch her diaper after it can be messy
