7 Mon. Old Baby Head Jerking

My daughter is 7.5 months old. For in the evening two days ago, I noticed that she jerked her head to one side involuntarily, kind of like spasma. Last night, she did it again. After that, she seemed irritated by it. Each time, it lasted a few seconds. Did this ever happen to any of your baby? I am concerned whether her brain or nerve system is growing healthy. Of course, I will try to call my Ped as well. Thank you.

What can I do next?

A similar thing happened to my daughter at 8 months I was really concerned as well but I think it was because she was beginning to use her shoulder muscles to crawl around and pull herself up onto her feet to stand. I think her muscles were sore and she was just starting to discover that she even had shoulder muscles. At her 9 month checkup, the Dr checked to make sure that she didn't break her collarbone and said that she didn't see anything that worried her. The spasms only lasted for a week or two and it hasn't happened since.

Our daughter experienced something similar at 13 months old. Our insurance is Kaiser and has a nurse advice line, we called and were advised to head for the emergency room. She was diagnosed with probable Myoclonic jerks. Not the same of seizure, at a later follow with a neurologist, all tests were normal, no indication of brain seizures. A big relief, but frightening indeed to see your baby go through it. Our daughter was not aware of her jerking, she would go on playing and walking. It occurred that one time and lasted a span of about 20 minutes, jerking intermittenly. Good luck.

She may just be a little overtired (babies have their own tired signals... when my son was really little, he scratched his head and pulled his hair a lot when he was overtired), but yes, check with your pediatrician.
