Hey everyone,

We are thinking of renting a place over on 63rd and E. Burnside. I'm not too familiar with the area. We walked around and noticed kids playing out on the street, which was good. :)

I'm wondering if any of you live over there or have any thoughts on the neighborhood, particularly kid-friendliness but also fun things for adults to do.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

We ended up renting a house in Ladd's Addition for a price that was actually less than the place out on Burnside, if you can believe it. I wanted to thank everyone, however, for the great information on that area. We did really like it and we'll still consider it when we're ready to buy.

For now, we're extremely happy here, especially being so close to Abernethy School and their great playground! Are there any other Ladd's Addition moms on here?

Hi D.,
I don't know if you ended up moving to the E 63/Burnside area, but I live one 71st between Burnside and Glisan and have been very happy with the area. I take my dog out for early morning walks and have never had any problems. The area is close to Mt Tabor park and there are some neat new establishments opening up on SE Stark between 82nd Ave and 74Th ave - including a movie theater that provides babysitting at the theater.

I live in Montavilla and have for 14 years. While I don't see many kids playing on our street, I know they are around! My daughter went to Vestal Elementary for a few years (she's in a charter school now). It is great being so close to some really great parks (Mt Tabor, Laurelhurst, Montavilla), and the Montavilla Community Center is GREAT. Outdoor pool in the summer, great classes year round, good playground for toddlers and bigger kids, lots of room to run, bike or stroll.

"Downtown" Montavilla is seeing a renaissance, with a few really great coffee shops in the area, a newly refurbished theater that offers *childcare* (shocking!), and some restaurants definitely worth visiting. Flying Pie pizza, Country Cat, Ya Hala, El Dorado, Paitong.

We'd be neighbors! I'm on 71st & Glisan, so not too far from where you're thinking. :)

Hi,

are you south or north of Burnside? both are nice. south of Burnside is the Mt Tabor neighborhood. We have been in Mt Tabor, at 55th/Hawthorne since 1990. there is a great co-op preschool - mt Tabor preschool - (at least it was in the mid-90's!) Anyhow Mt Tabor and surrounding area is a FABULOUS area to live in. The park is wonderful for kids and also for walking in w. girlfriends. at 63/Burnside you are not too far from Cooper's Coffee (60/Stark) a great gathering place. Schools are all really good. Hawthorne district is wonderful and now Montevilla is taking off (76-80/Stark) I love this area. M.

HI there. I birthed my daughter in a home on 53rd and Burnside and lived there for 2 years after her birth. We loved going up to Mt Tabor (even walking up there) and strolling over to the Belmont neighborhood. It also was fun to roam around portland nurservy chatting about the plants and hitting the apple festival every october. Glencoe school has a great playground, and I could go on and on about the belmont/hawthorne attractions for adults. Oh, don't forget about laurelhurst park at stark and 39th! You would be moving to a GREAT neighborhood for parents!!!

Hi,
I live on 110 and Burnside right now, but use to live right around you. I miss that area it is much better than here! One of my favorites that is great for families is Mt. Tabor. If you have been there you know it is a great place to walk and play. There is a playground, and hiking trails and great views of the city. I went there a few weeks ago with my daughter, she napped the whole time, but there were a lot of children playing! One day my daughter will be running around playing too!

I think you will find that it is quite a nice area. I live up on 70th and Belmont and know quite a few young families that live down the hill. The montevilla neigborhood is on 76th-82nd and stark which is a nice walk and there are several restuarants, a movie theatre, a community acupuncture clinic, a wonderful cafe which often has parents and their kids enjoying a sandwhich for lunch. Also their is a new farmers market that happens in the summer, just started last year.
Good luck
