When I brought home my new addition to the family my six year old daughter loved her sister! Now she's saying things like "I don't like babies, they cry too much" but at the same time she wants to help. My question is how do I help my six year old daughter transition into the life of being a big sister?

What can I do next?

Yep.. That was me..

My sister was my 5th Birthday gift! I was excited till the first night when she kept waking up crying! I told my mom she "could take her back!"

It put a real cramp in my lifestyle, we could no longer go and blow the way we used too.

Of course I did want to try to help. I gave her some bottles. They would lay her on my lap with a pillow and I would hold the bottle. I would get the diaper changing table ready when it was time to change her. I got to pick out what she would wear. I read to her..

I got to push the buggy a little when we went for walks.

Unfortunately she was a baby that cried a lot!

We found out she had terrible ear infections, so it was super hard to share a room with her. Sharing a room was pretty tough, but no choice since we only had 2 bedrooms.

You all will get in the groove. Just remember your daughter needs to be active and get times to be able to be loud and run around.

K., this trend will continue for a very very long time. Little sister is nice to have in theory but in reality - another story. Siblings are competitors, they always be, you will try to make them get along to the best of your abilities, I am sure, but they always will fluctuate between love-hate relationship. Just keep the perspective. I tell my boys - he (the other guy) is here to stay for the rest of our lives, so get used to that and get along.

Sound totally normal. Make sure that you carve out special time for her, and just have patience.
She's adjusting to a new way of life, too.

Here is a different take on the topic...
What happens when your 4-legged friend becomes an “older sibling” to a human child? How do you prepare your pet for the arrival of baby?

DOGS AND CATS:

Consistency is key. Your pet may sense that a lot of things are changing in his/her world. For example, the guest room is painted and furnished with baby things. This can cause apprehension. Try to maintain consistency as much as possible in your pet’s world. Where changes are made, try to make changes as gradually as possible.

While you are expecting, have friends or family members with infants visit your house. Let your pet interact with those infants. Is your pet gentle and loving? Indifferent? Observe and shape those interactions as this is your pet’s opportunity to get accustomed to relating to a human baby. Additionally, you may wish to play tapes of a baby crying, wear baby lotion, walk with a stroller or swaddled doll, or do other things that gradually introduce the sights, sounds, and smells of baby to him/her.

Take your pet to a pet trainer if you think s/he needs to learn significantly new boundaries.

Let her help. At six babies are fun, but annoying, too. I'm sure she'll be just fine - especially as the baby gets a bit older and more active.

Oh, haha, I thought this said "6 yo getting used to baby sitter". This sounds normal for a sibling to act when baby comes home. Just remind her that she was a baby once and that little sister will grow up too and will be fun to play with and take care of. Good luck!!!
