6 Year Old Boy That Blinks More than Usual

Since end of December we have we notice that our 6 year old son blinks alot. He does wear glasses and at first, that seemed to slow down the number of times he blinks. But when he does not have them on, he blinks A LOT. He says his eyes hurt so we do put some drops but that does not help. I have asked his teacher if she notices the blinking in class (he goes half days) and she doesn't notice it but our sitter notices it all the time.
I am going to schedule an appointment but not sure if this is an eye doctor or his doctor. Any thoughts/suggestions would be great, I am at a lost on this one.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

I took him to his doctor and the first thing he thought was Tics, but he would like my son to go to a Ophthalmologist and go from there. My son doesn't realize what he is doing, which is great, but when you ask him about it he does it more (gets nervous) and reading more information regarding Tic, that is what it might be, but we are covering all ideas that the doctor might think. Thanks to all who suggested information!

It could be that his eyes are getting use to working together still since getting his glasses, but what Ive read and my first thought (my background being in the eye field) was to go have him check out at an Pediatric Ophthalmologist.

They will be more detailed, and specialize more than a Optometrist.

If you cant find a pediatric Ophthalmologist, dont be afraid to ask other Ophthalmologists how many children they see a week or a month. You want someone whom will be good with children, patient and will take the time to explain everything to you also. Ask around and find one that has a reputation of not being one of those doctors whom are always in a hurry or gives you short answers.

Try www.wrongdiagnosis.com
This sight has a whole list of symptoms with some simple home tests that may set you in the right direction for treatment. It is very detailed.
When I looked for eye blinking with no other symptoms, the most common cause is nervousness. The teacher notices no excessive blinking and your sitter does. The classroom may give him a structured environment and he is very interested in learning, it seems. The sitter may make him nervous and he might not know what is expected, while she is in charge.
Full day school may help. Is the sitter in your home, is there tension there? Your son seems very intelligent and thought challenges may help him. Ask the teacher about some at home learning activities.

Hi C. If I was you I would check with your doctor because he could have a small tick witch is more normal than you would think in a child his age group my son has a tick -involntary movement of nerves in your body except his is in his neck when he is nervous or aggitated he starts to have movement in his neck a tick doesnot affect any learning process or anything it is really more noticable to us because the person doing the tick really does not notice at all and it is better if you donot tell them they are doing it because by tellin them they focous on not doing it witch results in them doing it more so my suggestion is to ignore it as much as you can most children grow out of it and it goes away on its own.I you have any questions please leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

This is definitely an eye doctor issue. When I was younger, I blinked a lot and I needed glasses. This could be the issue with your son-get his glasses checked for the correct prescription. Also a possibility of dry eyes or sensitive to light that the glasses may help block.
