6 Month Old - New and Terrible Sleep Issues!

My six month old has been sleeping great for months (all night!). Before, she'd wake up a few times in the night and cry out. We'd go in, replace her pacifier, and she'd go right back to sleep. All of the sudden, she has stopped, and will wake up screaming in the night, and will only be consoled if she is touching one of us (meaning either holding her or sleeping in our bed). If we put her down in her crib, she immediately wakes up and screams again. She had a cold last week, but is better now. Any advice on what to do? Is this common at this age? She's delightful during the day, and sleeps very soundly next to me in bed, but I don't want to start co-sleeping again. I was sleeping so soundly while she was in her crib! Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

Hi C.!
I have a 7 month old and just around 6 months he started
waking up screaming as well and wanting to be held. I took
him to the doctor and she told me that it was partiall
y due to teething but also because at around this age babies
have a lot of trouble falling back asleep when they wake up
due to fidgeting. They have to learn to go back to sleep on their own.
I had a few weeks of really interrupted sleep where I used to keep trying to put him
back down in his crib and then having to pick him right back up because he started
crying. My pediatrician told me that the trick is that whenever I put
him down, he should be really drowsy, but not asleep. it took a lot
of persistence and a lot of tries, but it worked!

the good news is he has settled back down into sleeping in his crib
and we are finally getting enough sleep!
Good luck! I hope it resolves soon

Just because she appears to by ok doesn't mean she doesn't have an ear infection the only symptoms sometimes is night waking which could be why she wants to be held. Call your pediatrician and bring her in to have it ruled out. They are most painful at night.

Or could be teething. Try some tylenol and see if it's better. If not, go to the dr for the ear check.

good luck!

My now 9 month old had the same thing happen! (right around 6 months) I think it is due to teething. he would sleep soundly for a few hours and then wake screaming and searching with his arms for us. unfortunately we gave in and brought him into bed with us and now he still does it. so.... not much advice from this side, just wanted you to know that you are NOT alone!
