P.P.
If he lifts his head up which most children do at 6 months of age I think you'd be okay. I think your safest bet is to wait a year but that's my opinion.
I posted a week ago about my 6 month old and his wakeful naps. Thanks everyone for your advice. I've been trying to get in to our room to help sooth him as soon as I hear him waking (suggested by someone and also in my No Cry Solution book). This has been helping. I am also trying to introduce a "lovey" (we call them snuggles in our home).
My new question is: is he too young to be put down in his crib with a small snuggle? We use the soft little blankets with the bear heads on them. I can't remember when I started letting my older son sleep with his. My baby doesn't take a pacifier, but does seem to like to mouth stuffed animals and his snuggle. I think it might help him sooth himself if he has it in his crib with him, but is it safe?
Thanks!
J.

Hi,
Sometimes "white noise" helps with the sleeping issue. My friend used to leave her tv on snow and it used to soothe her son to sleep. We had one of those machines that played wave sounds and a variety of other sounds like outdoor noise. At that young age I would avoid having anything your child can put in their mouth. They could sufforcate. They don't even reccomend putting blankets in the bed at this age.
My son has had his lovey in his crib with him from the beginning. I just pulled the head off, though, cause it was jingling when he was sleeping. Something small like that at his age, if he can pick up his head and roll around, he'd be fine, imo.
I'd say it depends on how mobile your little one is. Our son was rolling around a lot by 6 mo. so we felt it was fine to put his stuffed animals in his crib.
Most books say a year, but I think you just need to go on you mama instincts.
Best of luck.
