This is my second child and I am completely forgetting what/when/how much he should be eating these days. Can you give me some advice on how many x's I should be breastfeeding through out the day and solids? Currently, I am nursing (which changes all the time) 8:30ish, 11:30ish, 2:30/3ish, 6:30 and then again around 1:00am and 5:30amish. Sometimes I feed on demand so I sneak a few extra feedings in there as well. At what point do I start spreading the feedings out (ex- every 4 hours or 3x a day)? Feeding oatmeal/fruit in the AM, try to feed a veggie at lunch and then a veggie/fruit for dinner. He isn't enjoying solids at all right now so it is day to day. I have stuck w/ the first foods and he has tried them all. When should I start the second foods - 6-9 months right? Thank you for your help!

I follow this guide from the Baby 411 book. For reference 2 Tbsp. of cereal is 1 oz, and most Stage 1 baby foods are in a 2.5oz package.

For 3-6 months: (Stage 1 pureed foods)
32-40oz/day milk
0-8oz/day food

6-9 mos: (Stage 2 foods - introduce more texture)
24-32oz milk
8-14oz/day

9-12 mos: (Stage 3 foods - bite sized pieces)
20-30oz milk
10-15oz food

My little girl is 5 1/2 months and she drinks 4-8oz bottles per day, and eats one meal of cereal (2-3oz) and a fruit or veggie in the evening (2.5oz). She's a big healthy baby!

I started my first one on fruit first, but since its sweet she would not eat the veggies. My second one I started on veggies first, she likes a lot more of them now than my first one does and shes now 16.

My daughter is just over 6 months now, and we've just started solids (she was a preemie so we held off a little). I usually nurse her in the morning (between 6:30-7:30) and then give her cereal (1-2Tbsp) at her next feeding three hours-ish later. Next feeding is sometimes just breastmilk, sometimes also cereal. 4th feeding is cereal & breastmilk, last feeding is before bedtime and just nursing. We will have followed that for about 2 weeks, and then I will start to add in a vegetable.

At this point your LO is still getting basically all of his calories from breast milk, especially since he doesn't really like the solids. So I wouldn't cut back on nursing at all yet!

Are you nursing and then feeding? I would keep that up for another month or two, and then perhaps try feeding and then nursing for at least one meal and see how he does. I kept nursing my LO very often (every two hours during the day and every three at night) until she was about eight to nine months old. That was when I stopped nursing before meals, and after meals she seemed full and satiated so I she only wanted to nurse before nap and bed time. Now that she's 11 months old we're still nursing before sleep and occasionally she'll have a quick snack in the afternoon while we're playing.
