If you currently have an infant 6-8 weeks old (or can remember back to that time), what time do you put them to bed for the night and how long are they sleeping? What time are they waking in the morning? Thanks

What can I do next?

WOW, long time ago. Well, they take naps so frequently at that age. I think the time was about 10pm for the "night ritual." As the kids got older their bedtimes ended up sooner. Now, 8 and 6, they go to bed at 8 on school nights. BUT, at that time it was 10 I believe. My eldest never slept it seems. I was definitly sleep deprived with him. My second was quite different. He slept very well. As for how long they slept well, it depended. My eldest was up and down so many times I don't even remember, i was a walking zombie. But my youngest I was up one time a night to feed him at that age. I bottle fed, wasn't able to breast feed. That might have something to do with it too. So, good luck

Hmm.. I have a 14 week old, so this was me very recently. She is, I have to say, a FABULOUS sleeper. Much better than my son was. At that time she went to bed around 9 or so (frequently fell asleep on the couch with mom or dad) - was up to eat around 2-3 AM, and then up again around 6 AM to eat. Usually got up for the day around 8 or so. She may have been stretching it out as late as 4 AM at that point - I can't remember exactly when she did that. She actually slept straight through from 9-6 at 11 weeks (but has never repeated the feat).

My son is 11 months old, but I definitely remember back to that time. He was always a night owl (he goes to bed much earlier now) and would often be up until at least midnight. Sometimes he'd surprise us and go to bed earlier, but not often. If I tried to put him down too early, he was right back up again, but when he was good and ready, he'd sleep about 5 hours. (It was right at 5 weeks he started doing that). By 3 months, he started sleeping 9 hours, but again, it wasn't until he was ready. He'd often go to bed at midnight or 1 and sleep until 9 or 10.
Then at 6 months he stopped sleeping through the night, but you don't really want to hear about that. People keep telling me they will sleep eventually!

HI E.,

I have a 7 week old. We put him down around 10:00. If he wakes up twice he will wake up between 2 and 4 and then 5 and 7, after which he will wake up around 7:30 or 8:00. If he only gets up once (which has only happened a few times) he gets up at 4:00 and then again at 8:00.

During the day he does not like napping and will only sleep from 10 minutes to an hour every three hours.

He has created this schedule, the only thing I do is wake him up if he goes longer than 3 1/2 hours during the day.

Hope that helps,
V.

Hi E.!
Have your read the Book by Dr. Weissbluth, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child"? It is a great, great book for sleep guidlelines and how to help your child learn how to sleep. My first child was a colic baby and it helped us get through the first six months of it. I used it with all 3 of mine and it helped me stay sane!! I never realized that until about 3 mos of age, babies should not be kept up more then two hours, and at 6 weeks they can not shut off stimulus which is why they have trouble sleeping at this age. I found it very helpful, it kept me sane and I have benefitted from the results. That age is so disorganized, but it will be over before you know it!! Right now my 10 week old goes to bed about 7:30p, wakes at 2:30;3:30a for a feeding and then sleeps until 7:00/7:30a. About once a week he has a bad day and is off schedule. Hang in there!!
