Has anybody had any experience with their baby getting a molar as the first tooth?
My 5 month old boy (third child so I have had experience with teething babies)has been showing signs of teething for the past 2 months (Drooling, cranky, rash on face, bitting everything especially fingers.) Last inght I saw a white spot on his gums in the back and I can feel something popping throu. My other children's teeth came throu at 3 months but they were the bottom front. I don't know exactly what to do for him and am a little worried about the order they are comming in, will this cause a problem for the other teeth with spacing when they come in?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi Everyone, I took my little guy to the clinic today and it turns out he is not getting a molar. His gums are bumpy and swollen and he has a sore throat. So that explains the extra crankyness and not wanting to nurse. I gave him some tylenol and he nursed really well tonight. I want to thank you all for the speedy responses and the peace of mind you gave me. It's nice to know I am not alone when it comes to worries about kids.
Thanks again XXOO
L.

It is hard to predict, my daughters teeth came in at goofy times, not necessarily in the order they were suppose to and she got teeth really early.
If it is truly a molar, for whatever reason it is coming in now. They have an amazing way of working it out those teeth coming in, hee hee.
If you are concerned, call a Pediatric dentist, as he is still too young to really get an exam and just ask.
My daughter has spacing issues and she is 7 but it has more to do with their jawline and if they are petite or not, like she is.
Motrin helped with the molar teething and teething tablets.
Good luck, call a dentist if you have one personally even and just ask.
Not much you can do if it is coming in but wait...hugs!

I'm a hygienist. I would recommend leaving the pediatrician out of this as it's NOT their expertise. I don't think it will cause a problem and there's nothing that would be done about it at this age anyway. My advice is to first of all not worry about it and second ask your dentist the next time you go in or just call and ask him or her about it.

Dear L.,

I would not worry about he tooth coming in. I am a dental hygienist and sometimes teeth come in at their own will. Also, the tooth is coming in might be an extra tooth since it is way young for him to to have a molar come in so early. Again don't worry about spacing and all. If the tooth is an extra one you will notice that it will be somewhat malformed and maybe will fall out. It is nothing to worry about unless it really hurts him. My daughter had two extra teeth and she is fine and is married and looks beautiful despite her mother who always nagged her to brush her teeth etc.

Hi L.,

It could be a milk tooth. The best way to find out what is going on with his mouth is to consult your dentist. Usually teeth will arrive in the order they are needed. It is probably a milk tooth. which is nothing to worry about, it is kind of a tooth like thing that will fall out eventually. Anyway, talk to your dentist. Good luck.

My sons two front bottom teeth never came in...and when I was researching and talking to every dentist I could find the overall theme was: no worries. The order doesn't necessarily matter so long as they all eventually show up. That being said, it doesn't hurt to call and double check with your dentist to see what they say. GL!

L.,

I wouldn't worry about it. My second got her molars in pretty early, though not as a first tooth. If you are really concerned about it, you can always talk to a pediatric dentist. The fact is, you can't do anything about it. If it's coming in, it's coming in. Little ones have plenty of space in their mouths (remember, they don't typically get their last teeth in until they are around two), so I can't see how it would affect spacing.

Cheers,
S.

you may want to check with a dentist. I only say that because molars are teeth your baby does not lose and when they have them this young if you are not diligent about brushing them he will have decay as he gets older. When the baby teeth come in early it is not that big of a deal its when the permanent ones do. Especially while they are still on the bottle. Good luck

My oldest daughter had her teeth come in out of order and everything has turned out fine. I made sure to always bring up my concerns with her pediatrician.
