55Th Wedding Anniversary Gift Idea @ $50 - Chantilly,VA

My parents are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary and I need a small gift. The problem is my parents have everything and we already put together a family photo collage, so pictures won't work. Emerald is the gift for 55, but definitely out of budget. I don't want to spend more than $50. Any ideas? I can't order anything as I need it by Saturday. Every other major anniversary my family has all chipped in and got a big gift, but for some reason we are not doing that this year.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I didn't realize until after I got a few responses that I forgot to mention that my parents are hosting a family lunch, so a get-together won't work. My sister and I decided since it's last minute to get them a gift certificate to a restaurant they wouldn't usually go to on their own, and possibly joining them for lunch. We also decided for Christmas to recreate some old photos. I've seen it on pinterest and it looks funny seeing adults recreate pictures of when they were children.

There is a widely available houseplant called an Emerald Palm. I have even seen them at Home Depot :) It is pretty, easy to care for, and you can put it in a nice pot for under $50.

How about an emerald green table cloth? A nice one. Add 4 nice square

You could get your mom a costume emerald stone ring & your dad an
emerald tie. Then take them out to dinner.

An emerald throw for both of them with a nice bottle of wine.

Emerald mugs with their favorite coffee, a catered breakfast to arrive at
their door (scones, jams, orange juice, breakfast burritos).

A small emerald green koi pond in a corner of their yard complete w/koi
fish.

Set of beautiful green wine goblets (4) w/their favorite wine. Cover the
label with one you make yourself w/a sweet personal message.

Matching emerald green terry cloth robes.

Emerald green bath towels. Set of 4 luxurious ones.

Exotic plants they can plant in their garden.

$55 gift certificate to their favorite restaurant

If they have been married 55 years, they do not need or want another "Thing". They only want time with their loved ones .

Set up some get togethers with them and keep these gatherings fun.

Dinners, picnics, cookouts, brunch.. help them decorate their home for the holidays, go and help them rake leaves.. etc.. If you do not live close by, get them gift cards to their favorite places to eat.

Just send them a card with a letter telling them how much you love them..

A beautiful pot of Paper white bulbs.. This is the time of year to pot them and amaryllis bulbs..

Gather the family for a dinner or lunch. Time with family is a great thing when you have everything. I know my husband and I do not need gifts.
Time with the family is like a million dollars.

Potluck with all of their old friends. If they have few old pals, then potluck with family.

Your $50 could cover the meats.

Take a look at the link below. It is easy and if you have some good old photos of their wedding and life... you could make a wonderful bound keepsake book for not a lot of money.
Or you could take one photo that they love like an old wedding photo and get it put on a tile and there are companies (google sublimation) that can set the tile onto a wooden box and make a nice jewelry box for less than your budget!
We had a store that used to do this process and a customer came in with an invitation to a friend's 80th birthday party that said NO GIFTS but she wanted to give him "something" so she got an old picture of the man playing tennis, when he was in his 20s and we made it into a beautiful velvet lined jewelry box. Later she came back and said it was the hit of the party!
Just an idea...

wrap it with emerald paper and a bow... I don't see any reason why the acutal gift has to be "emerald" ;)

What about a collection of songs that were popular in 1958? You can probably buy a retail set, but I was thinking more along the lines of choosing individual songs and making/ordering a custom CD.

You could include the #1 hits from the particular month of their wedding and possibly "their song" if they have one.

Honestly? Keep your $50.00 and have a family day. My husband and I had our 30th a few years ago and no gifts were necessary or even wanted. We do no need want or need anything. Spending time with them, maybe a Sunday brunch or something, is always nice.
