50 Shades...

After all the talk and hype, I have ordered the trilogy and honestly can't wait for it to get here so I can begin reading them. I have read reviews online and it seems people either loved it or hated it...who has read it? What are your thoughts?

What can I do next?

I had the free sample sent to my Kindle. I agree with the 1-star reviews! Bad writing, really bad, groaningly bad. Shy awkward 21 year-old virgin college student meets 27 year-old gorgeous multi-millionaire CEO in a totally contrived situation. Later, he shows up at the store she works in to buy rope, masking tape, cable ties... "What on Earth is he going to do with those?" Jeesh...

It was the most poorly written book that I've ever attempted to read. How it ever got published, I don't know.

I really really REALLY enjoyed them. I'm almost done with the third book, and I'll be sad when I'm done. The bad writing isn't THAT bad. I mean, it won't win any literary awards, but it's not written by a third-grader either. It's meant to be entertainment, not literary genius. Take it for what it is!

I love the books! Enjoy!

Totally surprised by all the negativity, I thought it was fun and a great story. I am glad the book ended how it did, and was definitely surprised by how it all turned out. I am not pretending to be a literary snob by any means, so I don't really have much to say about if she's a great writer or not, but I thought it was a good series. It was just a fun, light novel.

I've read some reviews - it's not my preferred genera.
It sounds like it should be the name of a sunglasses store, a drapes/blinds shop or a paint store.

I totally agree with Angi C. about the fact that if you are writing a naughty book, with extremely graphic parts, suddenly stumbling on a "he put his hand on me DOWN THERE" made me want to laugh out loud. And I'm in the camp that found the story mildly interesting, but couldn't get past the bad writing. So no books 2 or 3 for me - I'll just have my friends tell me what happens with the storyline.

I enjoyed the entire trilogy.

The story is engaging, sexy and fun. I especially liked the little treat at the end of 50 Shades of Freed...a chapter from Christian's perspective. Fun!

I read it ... thought it sucked.

It's poorly written and would probably have gotten a D (at best) in a high school english class, the author didn't do enough research on the subject matter AND if you're going to tout your book as "erotic/erotica" then the use of "down there" and "his erection" for genitalia DOES NOT FLY. OH and it's Twilight fan fiction (therefore the characters are just badly developed because SHE didn't develop them and neither did meyers, in my opinion).

If you're really interested in erotica and/or bdsm I can recommend GOOD authors of those subjects.

I don't mind the subject matter, I just thought it was poorly written. Couldn't finish the first book, too contrived. As a writer myself, I can't stand poorly written literature. I loved Harry Potter and Hunger Games, those were very well-done books. I think an author needs to weave a good tale AND have some talent in order for me to spend my time reading their book.

I posted about this the other day too :) I love these books. Not for the sex, but for the storyline. I can't put them down. Some people have negative comments, but I just remember that it's fiction, so it's just for fun. Like another responder, I'll be sad when I'm done. I've just started the third book, and I'm anxious to see how it turns out. If you're not into the first book, just be patient, the second is very good, and I heard the third is even better. I loved the first too - read that one the quickest so far. I'm sure you're like me and had to see what all the hype was about... glad I did. I had a lot of negative responses to my post the other day, which surprised me because all my friends loved these. But it's not for everyone, and again, I just remember it's fiction. Hope you enjoy them :)

I hated it. I got halfway through the 1st book and stopped reading. Not because I'm uber proper or a literary snob. It was just boring and unbelievable. I wasn't able to suspend disbelief long enough to get into it and nothing of note happened by page 200.

On the other hand, I lent the book to my co-worker and she loved everything about it.

Not as bad as people say and not as good as people say. For me, it was merely a "whatever". In 5 years ask me if I remember anything about them and I'll probably say "Huh? WHICH books?" They made no impression whatsoever.

I totally agree with Sue W. I could not get past the horrible writing to actually enjoy it. It's sad that such a poorly written book is so popular.

I loved the books. To me though, the 3rd one didn't go as quickly as the other 2 did. I'm interested to see how they keep the movie under an NC 17 rating though....
