My child is running a fever of 102.9 since yesterday. she got what we thought two seizures, we took her to the ER, they said it was only aluzinations due to fever and that she has a level of 30 White blood cells in urine but not pain, just frequent urination. I had my own share of UTI 100 WBC but never got any fever like my daughter and her UTI is much milder than mine. I am doubtful of the UTI diagnosis, has this happened to your child, is it possible to develop fever for a mild uti?

What can I do next?

Our granddaughter never had a fever but she had an enlarged liver each time. The docs said that was nothing to be worried about. Odd things happen when we get infections.

My daugters first UTI, at the age of 4 was a week of a high fever. NO other symptoms whatsoever. We went into the urgent care on day 3...they told me just a virus. Went in on day 6 into the ER because she was lethargic and showing signs of dehydration and it was a UTI. Again, no other symptom, no pain urinating, nothing at all except the fever. She got IV antibiotics and fluids and was back to normal fast.

She has since had many many UTIs trying to figure out why. She has never ever had pain urinating...we can tell now because her urine smells, she will wet her pants (urgency), or be super cranky. We catch them now way before fever. We also get the tests from the dollar store to test early at home. After test, we have found out she is constipated. If she even gets a little backed up...another UTI. We are now getting them under control about a year later.

So yes, I think it is VERY possible this is a UTI. If they would have caught my daughters early, she would have had only a few days of a fever. Be thankful they figured it out.

Did they prescribe antibiotics? Is she getting plenty of water? Are you giving her Tylenol to treat the fever?

She's got an infection somewhere - that's what the WBC means.
Could be in anywhere from kidneys to bladder.
It's also possible she has an additional infection somewhere else.
Did they check for any ear infections, tonsillitis, etc?
As fevers go, 102.9 is up there but our pediatrician didn't want them brought into the office unless it was 103 (or over) and/or did not respond to Tylenol/Motrin to bring it down.

A lot of kids out grow febrile seizures by about 5 or 6 so it's possible she still can have them.
For the most part the seizures are more alarming to parents than they are to the kids and they are usually harmless.

Did your pediatrician recommend you take her to the ER?
What did the ER recommend you do?
What does your pediatrician say?

Follow their instructions.
Probably rotate Tylenol and Motrin, keep up with any antibiotic if they have prescribed any, keep her fluids up (water, cranberry juice, chicken soup broth, ginger ale, popsicles if she wants any, etc) - if she doesn't feel like eating anything solid - that's fine, don't push it and monitor for additional symptoms.

Its perfectly normal for a child to get a fever with a UTI. My daugher has had one and she had a fever as well. An infection is an infection no matter if its mild or not. A fever is your bodies way of fighting the infection. Im sure she was given an antibiotic and even if it might be something else, unless viral, it will knock that out too.

My friends daughter battled bad UTI all the time until they figured out that she had reflux...or something like that. She basically had urine backing up all the time. She had surgery to fix it and seems to be doing well.
I have not heard anything any different. :)

Good luck.

Not only is it possible, its likely they will have fever with UTI, mild or high. The infection itself can cause delirium and hallucinations, I suppose it could also cause seizure but I have no experience with that. I have had my child respond the the infection with delirium. Mind you, thats for a serious infection, which ours tend to be because of an abnormality in her "plumbing."
But all you can do is see if symptoms disappear when the infection does.
