Does anyone have advice for me on why a 5 year old would have discolored sticky looking discharge in her underwear? She is only 5 and has no other signs of starting puberty. Could it be a yeast infection even though she says it doesn't hurt when she potties? I havent had to deal with any of this stuff yet and I'm in need of some good advice please?!!! Thank you all in advance!
Well I spoke to her pediatrician and they said that can be normal as long as it's not a lot or her vagina itches or hurts to potty. So weird that's happening so early :(

Per your SWH - I'd STILL take her in to see the doctor, rather than just have a phone conversation. She needs to be looked at. And yes, a WOMAN doctor should look at her. Not a man. You'll feel really bad if it turned out that something was wrong and it was missed because you got over-the-phone advice.
Original:
You should take her to a ped. I would choose a woman ped, though. Don't talk anymore about this with her. You don't want to appear to be focusing on her there more than if she had a cold.
She should be seen to rule out a bladder or yeast infection. Again, she should be seen, not just calling the nurse line.
I have never had a yeast infection cause anything more then mild itching, so no pain or burning does not mean no yeast. I would contact her doctor.
A quick visit to the dr. should do. Male or female dr.
Yeast infections can be itchy, but they don't hurt/burn during urination. Burning during urination is indicative of a UTI. Sticky discharge could definitely be yeast. Call your pediatrician for best treatment.
Sometimes, women will get a UTI and end up getting a yeast infection at the same time, quite often because of the antibiotics used to quell the UTI. So that may be why you are confusing the symptoms of the two.
I would just have her be seen. It won't take very long to know what the issue is if any. "Discolored" is a little alarming so I would just take her in. My daughter is six and never has discharge in her panties. Typically she just has a little build up in the folds that we rinse clean. Take her in :)
My 4 year old daughter gets this. Sometimes it is yeast, once it was bacteria, and a few times it was nothing. The pediatrician said that there is no actual way to tell without looking and maybe a culture. So, I would take her in and have her looked at. I have had yeast infections that have not had any symptoms for a few days, and then it got worse. Anyway, I recommend taking her in.
