5 Point Harness Booster

Hi everyone.....
I am looking for a more secure booster seat so my 4 year old son can fall asleep in the car without toppling over the lap belt. We were using the Britax Roundabout and LOVED it, but he is has outgrown it and I find it so hard to believe that there are no booster seats that actually secure the child. I did read about the Britax regent which is supposed to use a harness up to 80 punds and wondered if anyone has had experience with it. I understand it is extremely big and bulky which is fine, as long as I can rest assured that my son will actually stay put while he's sleeping in the car. He is currently using the graco booster - has a back that comes off (forgot what it is called).
I just do not feel secure at all with it when my son is sleeping......any thoughts or opinions??? Thanks! Happy new Year K.

I recently saw this amazingly sad video all about this Britax Regent and the importance of ahving kids in boosters as long as possible. (I am sure you've all seen it but in case not here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azgBhZfcqaQ )

It is definitely by far the safest to keep your child into a five point harness for as long as you can and I am unaware of any seat other than the Britax Regent that does so up to 80 pounds, although I am sure there are more, but I am a huge Britax fan. I actually put my 6 year old BACK into a 5 point harness after taking her out and putting her into a booster after I found the Regent.

Now's a good time to scour online for deals on Britax too since the 2007 models are just coming out and the 2006 models.colors are being discontinued. I just bought a roundabout for my 11 month old online and think I got a great deal. Good Luck!!

We have the Cosco Summit High-Back Booster. It gets great safety reviews and converts to a seat-belt adjusting booster when your child is too tall for the harness. I found many available on-line--here is one link:

Hello,

I,too, saw that video about keeping your toddler in a harness booster, not a belt positioning booster as long as possible. Yes, I am in the same boat as I am moving up my 3 1/2 year old and I would prefer a harness booster. There are no other harness boosters on the market except for the Britax you are talking about. I wish manufacturers would get on the ball and make more of them. However, Babies R Us just started carrying a new one by Cosco that is a harness booster until either 60 or 80 lbs (I can't remember). Then it turns into a belt positioning booster. It's very new and not on their website. It is in the stores though, at least the one in Schaumburg has it. It's $129.99 and has brown cloth. I just bought it last week, so I don't have it installed yet to let you know anything about it. But, it's another option. Good Luck.

I'm not sure if you came up with an answer to this already or not, but I was on the babycenter.com website yesterday and looking through their boosters they had a selection of a few 5-pt harness high back boosters. It surprised me b/c I'd only seen the previously mentioned ones out in my searches, but they had a few more options. Perhaps worth looking at?

I don't have any experience but will be soon having to replace the Evenflo Triumph in one of my cars and also want another 5 pt harness...my son is almost 3 and getting close to 35 lbs. I just saw this seat also on the website mentioned previously and it looks good, but they are out of stock. They also have another version that goes to 65 lbs. In my other car I have a Britax Marathon which goes to 65 lbs ff and I will get alot of use out of that yet.

I don't know anything about this company's reputation, but just thought I'd present it as an option.

I have both the Britax Regent and Roundabout in our minivan. My daughter is 33 pounds and does not slip out of the Regent and hardly noticed the transition from the Roundabout to the Regent. As you mentioned, the downfall is that it is quite large and takes up a lot of space. Even though it is large it is very easy to move as it uses the same latch system that the Roundabout does.

I totally understand your concern. If you are just looking for something to support your son's head when he falls asleep, I just saw a head support for boosters, otherwise check out www.leapsandbounds.com.
