5 Months Old Baby Won't Sit Still When Eating. Time for Solid Food?

My 5-months-old baby is fussy when she gets her bottle. We have to hold her on one arm and walk around so that she eats a little bit. She cries as soon as we sit down. The only time she eats well is when she is sleepy. She eats 1 oz in the morning and at noon and 6 oz in the afternoon, evening, and night. She has slight acid reflux sometimes but it does not seem to bother her. She appears to be very interested in our food and tries to grab our plates when we eat. Anyone has similar experience? How do you deal with it or any suggestions? (She weighed 17 pounds in the beginning of September.)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses. I found out from my daughter's pediatrician that my daughter was fussy because we were force feeding her. Instead of feeding her every 4 hours, we now feed her only when she is hungry and that is about every 4 to 6 hours. She is no longer fussy. We will start her on rice cereal tomorrow morning since she is almost five and a half months old and her pediatrician said she is ready.

She's a big girl!. I think it is time for rice cereal. My son was fighting my breastfeeding sometimes and now it is slightly better since we tried rice cereal for a few weeks now. He is 5 months today!.

That's what both of mine did at that age - time for real food! And if your little one is anything like mine were, they graduated to mashed up people food really fast too (very few baby food jars!). I recommend veggies first, before any fruits, like the books say. My kids LOVE their vegetables.

Wow. I am so glad you posted this. My daughter is almost 4 months and we are beginning to have the same problem. She's not quite coordinated enough to grab at my food but she stares at me eating and smacks her lips and stares at my plate. She's started being fussy when I try to breastfeed her and won't sit still for a bottle unless she's tired. It just started last week and my diet hasn't changed or anything. Let's just say I've gotten pretty good at walking and nursing or the standing rock and nursing.
