5 Month Old No Longer Sleeping Through the Night!

My 5 month old was sleeping through the night, from 8pm-7am. All of a sudden he gets up at 2:00am or 3:00am. I rush to get him because I don't want him to wake up my 4 year old. (whose room is right next to him). I have been feeding him, and he seems to be really hungry, and I will put him back down.
Any ideas why he is all of a sudden getting up in the middle of the night again, he is eating the same amount during the day.

Also, I know I should let him cry it out, but I don't want him to wake up his brother.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

What can I do next?

How many ounces does he get during the day? If he's eating 32 oz. a day and is still hungry, then it's time to introduce solids. I wanted to wait until 6 months for my daughter, but we started at 5 1/2 months because she was so interested in what we ate. While her sleeping habits didn't change when we introduced solids, my nephew's did in a obvious way.

I would recommend not to feed him at night if hes been doing fine- once you start it makes it very difficult to stop. does he do fine all day or have any difficulty feeding or sleeping? Cold symptoms? Perhaps rule out an ear infection?

Had he started teeting? If he hasn't been waking up to eat I would not start now. It will become a habit and harder to break as he gets older. I know you fear waking up your four year old. My other kids sleep through it and if they wake up they are told to go back to sleep and they do because they understand. I would keep him in his bed and just rub his back for a little bit then leave. If he cries give him a few minutes then go back and reassure him. Making the time between going in longer and longer. Eventually he will get it. It just perseverence and patience on your part and a little lost shut eye so you get shut eye when they turn one. Good Luck

Could be a growth spurt. I have nursed 3 kids for a year and all of them needed feedings in the night until at least 6 mo and even a little longer.

My boys share a room and my youngest would wake up in the middle of the night and cry too but the older one lived through it. =) Go in and check on him, then leave him. Close your door if you have to. If your older child wakes up, let him sleep on your floor for the night. That is what we used to do. Everyone makes it through it because sometimes babies just need to cry and unfortunately that time is not always at a convenient time! My little guy would eventually get back to sleep and after a while, he stopped crying. If he is crying, just to cry, then leave him. If he is crying because something hurts, then fix it. =)

Good luck!

Have you started solid foods yet? My daughter was the same way at five months. My doc told me I would know when she was ready because she would start waking up at night hungry. If you haven't already, maybe it's time to start some cereal with your son.
