Welcome to mamapedia!!

This is a PARENT'S group! We have dad's and mom's on this site.

What does the pediatrician say?

Have you tried using a nasal aspirator to help clear out his nose?
What about a hot, steamy shower?? Let the steam get in and drain his nose??
Do you have a humidifier in the house?
Can you use the Vicks Vapo steam machine??

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=vicks+vapo+steam&ref=nb_sb...

i wouldn't use vaporub on him without talking to my pediatrician.

A nice steamy shower - I would take my baby right in with me and hold him in the warm water, he loved it (baby can be slippery though, be careful!). Followed immediately by a nasal aspirator. Followed immediately by feeding while his nose is a clear as possible.

If he also has a fever, call the ped to check for dehydration right away. Fever plus insufficient liquids can lead to dehydration pretty quickly.

This is a mom group.

Saline drops and a nasal aspiration help. Not laying the baby flat helps. You can put him in his car seat to sleep and rest. That makes it easier for him to breathe.

Babies don’t like you messing with their noses. Do it anyway. If you have trouble with a small nasal aspiration, try an ear bulb syringe. That worked for my kids.

It’s very important that he not get dehydrated. Don’t hesitate to get him to the doctor. Babies can go downhill fast because of dehydration.

If you want a moms group in your area, post that as a separate question and click the button that says the question is specific to your area. Put your town in the question's title. If you're in San Diego, indicate which part of it or what suburbs are close to you.

That's totally separate from a child who's not eating. You need to talk to your pediatrician who has dealt with hundreds of infants who get colds. The doctor or the nurse advice line is best (call the regular number and listen to after-hours instructions or talk to the answering service staff, whichever they have). They'll tell you what to do, including suctioning out excess nasal secretions in a safe way, and keeping the baby hydrated. They may tell you to keep track of how much is going in, and they may tell you to keep track of wet diapers so they know how much is coming out. A moms group cannot help with this, and you cannot take a sick baby to a group anyway. Your child's doctor knows the medical history and that's who you should rely on for this.

Use a humidifier in his room at night.
Use the baby bulb syringe to suck out stuff in the nose (yes, he will hate it but it's helpful)
Run a hot shower with the door closed to make a steamy bathroom and hold him in there for a while before using the bulb syringe.
Talk to his pediatrician and tell him/her your worries to see what advice they have.
We've all been through this!

The best person to ask is a doctor or advice nurse. The hospital has an advice nurse 24/7.

Have you tried the common things such as clearing his nose and giving him steam with a vaporizer or sitting with him in a steamy bathroom? Hold him upright when feeding. Put the head of his bed higher so he's not laying flat. It's important he stay hydrated. You could give him popsicles.

Call his doctor or an advice nurse! Always talking with a medical person should be your first source of information.

The doctor or nurse will want to know if he has a fever and how he's acting as well as how much liquid he's had.

Google moms groups in your area.

Of a mom group in your area? You can post a question and specify your location (currently it's going across to everyone).

As for clearing the nose out, I used to use a infant suction bulb - it makes a vacuum to clear out the mucus.
