I would be concerned as well. Have you rationed how much she drinks? Does she eat well, or does she fill up on drinks? If she eats well and still drinks as much I would recommend calling the doctor to just rule it out. Good Luck!
My daughter drinks a lot and I am starting to get concerned. She is 18 months old and allergic to cows milk so she drinks soy and she can not have juice because it does not agree with her stomach, she she drinks either Propel water, sugar free flavored water, or this stuff called Fulfill which is a sugar free drink. We have to change her diaper constantly because within 45-1 hour her diapers are about 5 pounds (I am not kidding). When she gets up in the morning her sheets, blankets and clothes. This also happens if you dont change her constantly. What should I do? Is it to early to be diagnosed with diabetes?
I took my daughter to the doctor yesterday and they did a STAT BMP to check her levels. The doctor then called me back with the results and they were all normal. I was told to limit her drinks and if she absolutly has to have something then give her water. (Hallie does not like water)The doctor said that if she was thirsty enough she would drink it. Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback!!

She probably is drinking so much because it taste good, not because she is thirsty. I would switch her to plain water only and monitor how much she is drinking. To much water can rob her body of vital nutrients and minerals(it will just flush them out before her body can absorb them). Besides....that flavored water is riddled with artificial sweetners that aren't good for the body, especially a little growing one. I would also seek some medical advice-sure does sound like a lot of pee. Good Luck.
It is definitely not too early. They tested my son at 11mths. It does sound like that's what it could be. I would certainly take her in ASAP to get her checked to be safe. Either way, that's not normal. If it was an overactive bladder, I don't think it'd be that MUCH that often, just more frequent. Good luck, and keep us posted.
There are also others signs to look for. A biggie is ...not when she has recently drank anything... does her breath smell sweet & sugary? Does she act up alot..crying, temper tantrums? Does she sleep alot (and by alot I mean about 18 or so a day)? Does she eat "real" food? And I have a 3 year old that has had all of the symptoms for about a year, including having a yeast infection, but she is not diabetic.
The best way is to request for your pediatricican to do blood work to confirm or deny this. And sometimes it can still "hide". But it does help to ease your mind.
Hope this helps.

I had a similar issue with my second child. He drank way to much fluids, and I constantly had to change him. He wet at night also. Does she eat well? My son did not, so he drank too much to make up for that. He was and still is very picky. Do not let this worry you and assume she is a diabetic. Just talk to the doctor, and he will probably do a simple test to find out.
Ok, seeing as how I've been diabetic for over 25 years, here's my advice:
1. Get her checked
2. Sugar-free drinks are very well known to cause not only diarrhea, but also excessive urination. That could be the only problem you have. A lot of Gatorade type drinks do the same thing. And anything labeled sugar-free with artificial sweetners in it will do the same. You wouldn't give your baby caffeine, so don't give her the the others either.
She needs to be drinking some water. If she won't drink plain water, you can dilute her drinks to maybe a quarter of it water at first, then half water. When you do that her eating will improve, too because the drinks have been curbing her appetite probably enough to make her THINK she is thirsty, when actually she is hungry. I hope this helps. It helped my daughter.
If she is peeing that much, which seems a lot, they have seperate liners to add to the diaper, but I would ask your pediatrican about this one. Just doesn't sound quiet right.
Also, I'm not an expert but to test for diabetes, I would think is never too young.
Sounds almost like an overactive bladder, like you see on the commercials with the pipes and the guy traveling trying to take pictures.
Keep us updated so we know how she is doing. I will add her to my prayer list.
Take care,

No she is not too old to get checked. It may not be DM but lots of drinking/bathroom is definitley a precurser sign of Diabetes. Get her checked as soon as you can.
Hi Megan,
I am very sorry to say that yes it sounds like diabetes. I would recommend calling your pediatrician right away and getting a blood test, it is simple and fast to do and that way you will be able to rule it out or diagnose it and start treatment as letting it go unchecked for too long may cause damage to the body. The fact that juices upset her stomach is also an indication that she can't absorb sugar and so she probably gets diarrhea from it. Also when you give her sugar free drinks do not give her drinks with aspertame or aspartamine in it, it is very bad stuff, especially for diabetics. Feel free to contact me if you need any support or advice and also please let us know what you find out. Warmly, J.
How much does she drink throughout the day? I agree with everyone else about the flavored waters, just give her plain water. One of mine had diapers that heavy and a wet bed when she drank too much throughout the day. Try limiting the amount she drinks during the day and see what happens. Children don't need sippy cups to carry around all day. I'm not saying you do that, I don't know. Also, juice gives a lot of kids diarrhea, so I don't think that necessarily means she has diabetes. If it makes you feel better, and are not sure, then have her tested. If she doesn't have diabetes, at least your mind will be at ease about that.
stop giving her drinks before bed and dont give her so many drinks.... talk to your doctor if shes constantly thirsty
