4Yr Old Having Accidents

Hi, Moms. I have a 4 yr old (turns 5 on 9/1) who has been completely potty trained since before he was 3. However, he's been having accidents lately. They are not total accidents- it's more like he doesn't make it to the potty in time. His undies are just a little wet. I know that kids get distracted playing and put off going- but it's happening several times a day. He tells me that his body tells him to go potty. I'm not sure what to do- I'd hate to give him a hard time and it turn out that his body isn't giving him enough warning. He doesn't complain of any pain- like it's a uti. Any suggestions? Anybody else experience this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I so appreciate the comments and advice. He's been fine the past couple of days. I think he was just too busy to get to the potty in time. I was just having one of those insecure mommy moments and needed to know we were "normal." Thanks, everyone!

Hello J.,

How about for the next 3 days you concentrate on remind him about going potty. ease up in the sugars and if you're concerned about an UTI then give him some cranberry-apple juice (less tart than just cranberry). Good luck and I hope everything is OK. 4-year olds get so distracted. ~C.~

Welcome to the world of a child having way too much fun- They just don't want to stop what they are doing. LOL (laugh lout loud for those texters!) I know it sounds bizarre but just remind him more frequently, even if he says that he doesnt have to go- privately call him to the side and make him take the time. Otherwise- when he does have the accident-make sure he does a full underwear change and soon he'll learn that changing actually takes more time than just going in the first place. That's the hard time he winds up getting- trust me the body lets him know- but hsi brain is too busy having fun!- Welcome to the world of boys! I have a 17yr old- feel free to write me anytime- !HA Its so normal- he's jsut waiting for last minute- My little guy was maybe that age when he slammed down the seat and dashed off- but slammed his little pishy! As long as there is no pain while urinating- I think you are ok- its just timing and not having the female multi tasking ability- lol

my daughter went through the same thing for a little while. It is really a normal thing; I wouldn't worry too much. Next time you take him to the doctor, you may ask about it, but I think it's just a phase that will pass. Just remind him now and then that maybe he should go to the potty a little more often. My daughter is 8 now and she if fine. It probably won't last long.

My son is 4 and has done this a few times, too. In fact, it happened today. His problem is that he gets caught up in playing and waits until the last second to make a dash to the potty. I would just interupt playtime every so often and ask if he needs to take a potty break.
