Anyone out there have stories? I had my first daughter, with polyp surgery and a IUI, at 39. She delightful and healthy and bright. Still, now I am 42 and my husband and I are a lot more nervous. This baby was concieved naturally after trying so hard with our daughter! Isn't life funny? This baby is eight weeks and has a good strong heartbeat and nice large sac. That's all I know for now.
I worry about everything, like a weird virus I picked up and how long I soaked in the tub, etc. I need to relax! Does anyone have some really honest stories?

I have a ultrasound with a perinatologist on March 16th. Please pray for us. He gave us good news last time.

What can I do next?

Hi S.. I recently had twins at 42. I worried throughout most of pregnancy. (It doesn't help having that "advanced maternal age" on the medical chart!!) The twins, however, were healthy and my age wasn't a problem. There are a lot more of us older mothers out there than you think! Good luck!!

my sister in law was 42 when she got pregnant with my niece, who is perfectly healthy and gorgeous.

she declined amnio because she would not have had an abortion anyway - but some people like to be prepared for all eventualities.

she did have a lot of back pain, and swelling towards the end otherwise the pregnancy was uneventful.

she did eat VERY healthy and did gentle walking to keep fit.

I had lots of very hot baths with my daughter (like every day!!) and she is fine, the placenta does an amazing job of filtering out harmful viruses.

CONGRATS!!!

Hi,

I am 41 and 16 weeks pregnant with my first child and my pregnancy has been absolutely perfect so far!!! I chose to have the CVS testing at 12 weeks and I'm so happy that I did !!! I believe in positive thinking and when those fears and doubts creep up (believe me I understand as I am a pediatric nurse and see all kinds of stuff!!!) you just have to STOP yourself and change your thoughts to positive ones.

Try not to worry too much, as simple as it sounds. It's not good for you or for the baby. Take it one day at a time and think positive!!!!

Best of luck.

My cousin has 3 beautiful and healthy kiddos. She had her FIRST at 41!!!! As hard as it is try to relax and enjoy. Focus on what you can control - enjoying your family, the miracle of being pregnant and preparing for the new little one! When you get stressed out, step back and remember how much you have to be thankful for - write it down... a gratitude list does wonders for the mind. Also, if you have the time, a prenatal yoga class (or other safe exercise)and release building tension.

I have a friend that had her first at 46, and her second at 49, both are happy and healthy. Call your fertility doc though, if you liked them, and let them know that you are pregnant and nervous. If you need more ultrasounds or their opinion or anything, let them know. Most places are happy to help you through this time. Normal OB/GYNs aren't always able to provide as much hand holding as you need right now. Good luck, and congrats!

I really understand the nervousness about being 'older' than average for having kids. Our first was born when I was 37 and the second which I was 40. Both are quite healthy. I found swimming to be a great form of exercise-- no carrying the weight for that time! Good luck with everything...

I had mine at 36 and 38 -both fine and healthy, but my sister-in-law had hers at 39 and 43 and both were fine. I have a good friend who had hers at 43 -again -just fine! Keep your chin up and go to the doctor -chances are you and the baby will be great! OH -and my GRANDMOTHER had my mother at age 43 -back in 1945 when that just DIDN'T happen ;-) My mom was fine too!

Consciously, as much as you can, stop yourself from worrying. There is every reason to believe that this pregnancy and this baby will also be normal. Focus on that. Have the tests because it is common sense to do so but focus on the positive.

Anxiety does not help you or the baby in any way. In fact it will do you harm. Make a conscious decision to enjoy your expected new little one. It is normal to be concerned and feel anxious. However, you are in control of what you do with these feelings. You can choose in what direction you focus your thoughts.

It seems that there is a lot written about older women and pregnancy. But remember those who have difficulties are still in the minority.

I had my baby (only) at 39 and had an uneventful pregnancy (except for my hubby being out of state on a golf trip when my water broke!) and a happy, healthy son! Good luck to you! Enjoy this pregnancy and Congrats!
