Greetings,

I have a total of $40 to spend and need two creative gifts. Outside of the usual toys, clothes, books and cash/check does anyone have bday gift ideas? I like the idea of a savings bond but I think they have to be in $25 increments (pls correct if I'm wrong).

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for such great ideas. I think I'm going to go with Heifer.com for the 7yo. I haven't decided on the 1yo but I love the identitydirect.com personalized books and the discovery store products. Unfortunately the trees cannot be delivered to CA but I thought it was a great idea for someone else. Thank you again.

My husband became very "green" after our daughter was born. In lieu of traditional gifts, he has been buying trees through the Arbor Day Foundation. You can buy over the internet and a certificate is given to you to present to the giftee. I'm not sure how cool, a child may think this is, but it depends on the age I suppose. Good luck.

I like to schedule "dates" for birthday presents. I feel the memories you share are worth more than any physical gift you can give. I don't know the relationship with the 2 children you're giving gifts to, but $20.00 would be enough for a matinee movie and popcorn for two. And, starting an annual tradition has even more meaning.

I know you don't want to purchase gift cards, but a unique one is for Heifer International at Heifer.org. Heifer helps to end world hunger and save the earth. For $20, your gift recipient can go online and purchase a flock of chicks, ducks or geese that would be given to needy families. Or, they can learn about helping others and choose to save up other monies and purchase something more for needy families, such as a goat or sheep. Shares of more expensive animals can be purchased as well. Regardless, families are given the resources and training necessary to be self sustaining, a wonderful lesson for our children to learn.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hi,

Depending on where the kids live you could get them tickets to Kidspace in Pasadena (Plus their mum - $8 each) which has something for all ages, or the zoo (probably more fun for the 7 year old but my one year old still got into it).

Good luck

I'm all for saving, but it really depends on what type of gifts you're looking for. Are you looking for something fun? Maybe roller skates?

Or maybe tickets to legoland?

It's so difficult when you don't know how the boys are like or what they like... =(

If you're not looking for a toy or maybe don't know what they are interested in, get a gift card to Target! As a mom I know I appreciate gift cards for the kids because you can use it a few weeks later once the birthday chaos has subsided some!
