Do you have kids salons near you? They have fun cars to sit in and a movie to watch....maybe that would help?
My son is 4 yrs. old and he is scared of getting a hair cut. Everytime we go in he starts crying what should i do?
I have even thought of doing it my self but i dont want to hurt him.

That is my son exactly.
So I have cut his hair at home myself.
BUT, currently, he will go to the Barbershop. With Daddy, my Husband.
Now.
And get his hair cut.
We, role-played about it, at home first.
Pretending.
And explaining to him, what happens when you get your hair cut.
So now at his age of 4... he still does not like getting his hair cut, but now he will actually go to the Barbershop to get a hair cut, without screaming.
My son was scared too. He thought that all the hair that was cut off, was HIM and it freaked him out and he got for real literally scared.
It's the sound of the razor close to their head. take another child who is not scared let him/her get their hair cut first when your son sees the child is OK he will see there is nothing to be affraid of. J.
Some children do better not facing the mirror. Just have then turn the chair around.
I used to take picture books and read the entire time the cutting was going on.. The hairdresser (our daughter still goes to her) says she loved "Story time" when we would go..
Do you take him to a salon fro children? If not, this may help. The distractions of playing games and the stylist knowing how to deal with the issue may help. My daughter has her little salon and when I had my best friend (my daughter is very close to her) cut her hair she was nervous and did not like it at all. She told me that she never wanted her Auntie to cut her hair again..it was interesting. I thought she was so calm about her haircuts but now know that it is her stylist and salon that make it work for us:)
My son is 6 and still loses it during a haircut. He doesn't like many things about it, but mainly....the itchiness of hair on his neck (even though they use a cape and towel) is the main thing, but also the fact that we HAVE to do it/no options/loss of control. I did it myself for a few years, because it was such a screaming ordeal. Now, we can get it done with some psyching up and rewards.
all 3 of my kids were scared. have him sit on your lap while he gets cut. Maybe it's the word 'cut' that is scary. Try, we are going in for a trim. maybe that will help.
Try a kid friendly salon, where they sit in a little car full of toys while they cut it. Don't know what's in your area, but there are a couple of them near me, so I assume it's pretty common. Also let him cut a tiny piece of your hair... show him that it doesn't hurt, then let him cut a tiny piece of his own hair... maybe that will be enough to get over the panic...
