4 Year Old Complaining of Leg/knee Pains

My daughter gets up through the night complaining of leg and knee pains. This has been going on for a couple of months. There are nights when she is crying and all I can think to do is give her tylenol and lay with her and rub her leg. Within the last couple of weeks she has said they hurt her during the day and wants to just sit or wants to be carried. At first, I thought they were just "growing pains" , then her way of wanting a little more attention but now not I'm not so sure. Any suggestions on this topic is greatly needed.

What can I do next?

warm baths help my boys with them too along with Tylenol.
Here is something else that helped and you will probably thing OMG you are messed up but that KY warming gel... it works!!!!!
I would monitor it and if it does become more frequent and daily then I would call... Make a chart for you to have the info for the dr.
God luck.

Have no fears- before you know it, that child of yours will LITERALLY grow into a different size of pants over night! GROWING PAINS! My son had them at 3 1/2, 5, 7 and here lately @ 8 years old. It is almost heartbreaking becuase there is LITERALLY nothing you can do! I take WARM MOIST rags and place them on his knee caps and it helps him. Kids that age are just too young for an icy hot type product, and heating pads can sometimes scorch their sensitive skin.

Good Luck your baby is growing up!

My son -- who is 4 also-- does this too but we've found it is just growing pains. In fact, he woke up bawling just a night or two ago. I usually start with a rice bag (just an clean old sock filled with regular --not instant-- rice) warmed up in the microwave and if that doesn't help then I give Motrin or Tylenol.

Also, several of my friends, my DH, and my mom all remember having HORRIBLE leg pains while they were growing up.

If you are concerned, take her to the doc. The charge for the office visit will be worth the peace of mind.

My son has done the same thing. It's pretty infrequent and usually only when we've had a super active day. The doctor told me that was growing pains. However, if she's having them every night and even during the day, it might not hurt to give your doctor a call. Hopefully it's just growing pains, but you can't be too careful these days!

Dont wait to go to the Dr. Have a blood test to rule out the bad stuff. Dont be scared but do be very proactive. Just remember, not all kids that are born healthy, stay healthy.
Also, research the pain meds that are best. I hear tylenol is bad and that motrin should be used.

Hope things are okay!
