Trying to decide on what to do for my soon turning 4 next month...I need an indoor venue that can accommodate up to 25 kids (plus parents) ranging in ages from 2 to 7...I have been to a party at Paradise Park, and that was great but a bit difficult to socialize with the other adults. I've looked in Moovin N Groovin, we have been to open play at Monkey Bizness, I checked into using our clubhouse in our complex but the management wasn't sure how it would be with so many 4 year olds (can't blame them!)...any suggestions would be great!!! I need/want it to be indoors and located in South Overland Park/Leawood/Olathe area.
Just booked the Party Barn...was in the process of looking into it and got to go see it today...and it is just minutes from our house!!! Seems like it will be the perfect casual, kid-friendly environment I wanted!
Our party has to be indoors b/c of medical issues my daughter has that doesn't allow her to properly regulate her body temp in the heat. Our place is out b/c we live in a apartment, a good size one, but it gets crowded very quickly!!
I haven't been there, but I know the Overland Park Community Center (80th ish off Metcalf) does birthday parties. They have party rooms and access to the indoor pool. Check out their website.
don't know of any inside places, but we did park parties for our summer kids and they were the best. The winter child is the one I always have problems finding creative ways for a birthday party but most of his have been at our house and the kids seem to have fun. We always had big parties where the whole families were invited when the kids were little until they started school because once they start school the adults seem to just drop off the kids and don't want to stay. We usually had 25-40 people at the park parties and had a great time and most of the time everyone stayed later than the party time and played with the kids or chatted with the adults, some went fishing, played volleyball, or enjoyed playing at the playground with the kids. The house parties, I limit for 2 hours, usually have 15 kids in the house and I pretty much entertain them with games and activities for the 2 hours to keep them in one place and not running all over. Our house is pretty small so we have one party with kids invited and a family party on a different day because just the family will be about 25 people and that is one crowded house but I don't have to entertain the family party like I do the all kid party. We do usually play games and have a great time chatting and catching up as we all have busy lives and don't get a chance to visit often. When my kids pick the sleepover option they only get to invite 3 friends and you don't want uneven numbers especially with girls--the triangle scenario can be a nightmare. It is always hard for them to just choose 3 but it seems to work out well as for them having a good time. I did one with 15 once and it was crazy and my child didn't seem to have a good time with that many for so many hours.
The Deanna Rose petting zoo in Olathe is a great place for young kids parties. There are picnic areas you can rent that the adults can sit and visit, They have a hayride, pony rides, fishing, mining activity, feed the goats with a bottle or can pay .25 for a handful of food. I think when you pay for a package you get tickets for the activities. Not sure what the cost is but we have been invited to parties there and all ages seemed to enjoy it.
You can also have a picnic in the area across the street or outside the zoo area and go to the zoo which entry is free and can bring a lot of quarters to have the kids feed the goats and walk around, there are neat playgrounds in the zoo to play too. A nice size zoo for small children as they won't get too tired walking the whole thing.
This may be a little out of the way, but the Sylvester Powell Center in northern OP has an indoor pool that would work well for your age group.
There is a zero-entry pool for the little ones with a mushroom fountain in it, a mini lazy river, and a water slide for the 7 year olds. You get a party room for cake/ice cream and presents, plus there are plenty of tables and chairs, so grown ups can hang together around the pool. When we were there, I counted seven life guards on duty.
Best of all, it is very reasonably priced and the staff is super friendly. Most of the pool toys are on clearance now, so you can add those to the goody bags and have a fun theme.
The Matt Ross center may be closer, but I've never been there.... Whatever you decide, we hope your little one has a fun birthday!
