My son is turning over onto his stomach at night in his crib . Is that common ? I am concerned about him sleeping face down. I sometimes go and turn him back onto his back , but unfortunately have woke him up 2 of those times . Is this happening with anyone ? What do you do ?
Thank you for any of your responses. :-)

Yes it's common.
Yes it's normal.
Yes, your son will be fine.
All or most babies do this.
It's developmental... and he's able to turn over now.
And he can probably turn back over the other way as well.
Many babies actually prefer to sleep this way and sleep better this way.
He's over 1 year old and he's at the point where HE can make himself comfortable now. Hooray!
No worries... but be aware that there WILL be other things they do in the crib as well.... even standing up and bouncing around and jumping up and down and what not. LOL.
All the best,
Susan

My son has been rolling over onto his belly since he was about six months old. He has never liked sleeping on his back, and his pedi said that when they can control their head, neck and upper back muscles to make that happen that it's perfectly fine.

So, it took me a while to let it go but, I think your little one is right on track!

Hi Stacy:
The experts say,the age babies are most susceptible to crib deaths or SIDS, is between the age of 2 and four months old. They say , to try and keep your baby sleeping on their back, up to a year if possible. After they turn one, and they are easily able to flip over all during the night, they are letting you know their preverence. What position they are most comfortable to sleep. Your darlin son, should be fine. You'd be up all night long flipping him back over, only to disturbe his good sleep pattern, and yours. I wish you the best.

Hi,
I'd like to echo the advice you just got, just to let you know that more than one person has the same experience. I understand your concern, but I believe the worst of your fears have passed.

Even though I've got four kids, I still worried every single night; long past the time I should have been worrying. Each time, a nurse or doctor would assure me that once my baby was strong enough to lift his head, hold his chest off the mattress and roll over, he was out of the highest risk. If you're still uncertain, you can always buy triangle props or (not likely at 14 months) attempt to swaddle him into position ... but truthfully, he's telling you that he's old enough, strong enough and determined enough to pick his own sleeping position. Just make sure that his crib is clear of big soft toys that might smoosh up against his face as he shifts around. If you're like I was, you'll be checking him so often that you can remove the mush-able things from his crib almost as soon as he starts dozing off -- giving him the temporary comfort of soft 'friends' and you the nightlong peace of mind that comes with knowing his breathing area is clear.

Best of luck! :-)

Hi S., it is perfectly fine for your 14 month ild to sleep on his stomach, my kids are grown but all 3 slept on their stomachs, my momhad 5 kids who all slept on their stomachs, and I bet if you ask your momshe willtell you you slept on your stomach, doctors and Hospitals have new moms scared to sleep their babies on their stomachs, when back in the day all babies slept on their stomachs, and you rarely heard of a case of sids.
