My 4 month old is usually a very happy, low-maintenance, baby who plays independently very well. Today, as soon as i've been out of sight she's been wailing. She usually only nurses for about 10 minutes every 2 hours or so, and today she's been nursing non-stop for at least 45min each feeding. I left for about 45 min. to go to wal-mart today and left her with daddy. She cried the whole time until I got home. You think she could be going through some anxiety? She's never acted like this before.

What can I do next?

She could also be going through a growth spurt, and need to increase your milk supply. If this is the case, it should go away in a couple of days, once you're making more. Or if there have been some kind of unexpected (for her) changes in your life, she may be looking for comfort. I went back to work part time when my DD was 4 months old, and the first couple of days, when I got home, she would nurse and let the milk run out of the side of her mouth--she wasn't hungry, she was just insecure and wanted mommy! After a few days she got used to things, though (she always stayed with her dad while I worked), and we went back to normal.

I agree with increasing your milk supply. My 7 month old is has been doing the same thing for a few days and I can feel the increase today.

I agree with the teething. Do you feel like she's chomping on you or actually sucking? If it's chomping - then she may be nursing. She may do this a long time before actually cutting a tooth. Or could she have gas? She may feel better when she's nursing. Have you eaten anything different that might upset her stomach?
I hope whatever it is she feels better soon. It's hard on you when all she wants is you. :-)

Could be teething. They LOVE nursing when they're teething, especially if they're tired, too. Poor baby!
