My daughter is almost 5 months and she is really gassy and feel like i have tried everything. We burp her all the time. We have been using Enfamil Fussiness and Gas formula. She is not breastfed. We use Mylicon gas drops. I have even tried switchg to soy. We are currently giving her cereal. I tried the rice and oatmeal. She seems even more gassy when we give her cereal. Not sure what the next step is. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you try.

What can I do next?

Instead of giving her more than her little body can handle, simply do one of two things (or both!):

1- Lay her belly down on your arm, and gently swing her. The counter pressure on her tummy will make it feel better, and the swinging soothes.

2- Lay her on her back on the couch or your bed and sit at her feet. Slowly bend her knees and gently press them to her belly. Again, the counter pressure gives relief, and the position she'll be in makes it easier for her little bowels to pass gas.

You know how when newborn's have their bottom wipes, and more comes out? If push comes to shove, you gave gently apply pressure with your thumb (covered with a wipee) to her anus; this gets things going. Infant suppositories can help as well.

Speak with her pediatrician if the problem persists through out the weekend. Hope your little one feels better soon!!

Try Gripe water. It is like a mylicon but all natural. My dr. highly recommended it. It worked for my daughter!

The food is making the gas. Stop feeding her food she is not old enough to eat. It sits in her stomach and rots then turns to gas. The food is probably causing the issue.

Add the Mylicon drops to each and every bottle before adding the water. This way is helps stop any gas being caused by the formula before it gets in her tummy.

Feed her less each time and feed her more often. If she gets to the point she is chugging it down then she went to long before being fed.

I suggest stopping the cereal. I've heard that oatmeal can cause more gas in adults because of the increase in fiber. I don't know if that would be true for a baby.

And I'd try using a non-diary formula such as Nutrimegen. Lactose intolerance causes gas. She could also be allergic to soy. It's a fairly common allergen.

I agree with Marda P. Try a lactose free formula. We had the same problem with our daughter and the dr put her on meds instead of suggesting this and it turned out she didn't need them. We switched to lactose free and she stopped having as many issues within the week and was completely done within two weeks. She still gets the same nutrients with lactose free. I was told it's just milk cooked a bit more so it breaks down the lactose so their tummies don't have to digest whole. Our girl is now 4 and she uses Lactaid and loves it! We also simply make sure that if she has food with milk in it (mac and cheese, etc.) that we cook it a few minutes after we add the milk and it seems to work just fine. Future warning, steer clear of powdered milk items (like in cocoa at dunkin) and powdered cheese (like on cheesy popcorn).I hope it helps you! And many people outgrow a lactose intolerance too, so she may not stay that way after 4-6.
