I have a 2 yr old son and with his delivery there was no question I was in labor, it was short almost painless and was awesome. I'm now 37 and 1/2 weeks pregnant with my daughter and I've been having cramps for over a week. I've heard if you have those period like cramps that could be labor but I'm not sure cuz my contractions with my son were so clear and definite....I'm in a lot of pain a majority of the day and just want to have this sweet baby girl. Any ideas or thoughts will help. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I second what everyone has said about resting and drinking a lot of water and seeing if that helps. If not, go in. I got a lot of BH contractions with my second son whenever I was walking, standing, etc. They WERE painful, but when I rested, they went away.

If the pain goes away or lessens when you lay down, you are probably not in labor yet. If the cramps start intensifying and come and go at regular intervals, you might be in early labor. You'll know when you can't talk through them and feel like you can't stand up by yourself when they're happening. Good luck!

With mine I waited till the pain was so bad I could not talk through them. Sounds like early stuff to me. Every labor is different (I had 3) so trust your gut.

And what happens if you drink a nice cup of chamomile tea or water and lay down on your left side, leg propped up by a pillow? Does the pain go away?

Braxton-Hicks contractions don't hurt. They're practice contractions and one can easily talk through them. You might stop to take a deep breath and straighten up. But nothing that last the majority of the day like you describe.

But if you're in a lot of pain...I'd recommend you call your OB right away.

GL! and congratulations!!

It could also be the Braxton-Hicks contractions..... I had that bunches of times with my kids..... and there were times I didn't know if I was in labor or not.

One way to tell the difference is if you change position (for example, get up and walk a bit if you are sitting down), Braxton-Hicks tend to go away....

If you are in any doubt, call your OB or doctor.... they will be happy to help you. And.... be sure to mention this at your next appointment.

You know your in true labor 1 if your water breaks or 2 you can't sit still, can't stand, can't walk or talk through a contraction.I have heard this many times from L&D & my OB currently preggo with 4th & has been true for me can't say for anyone else you just know when your in labor there is no question about it.But go in & see if you are al they will do is have you rest walk & monitor you for a while & if not send you home
