Hello, Mommies!

I've had this feeling in my hips for several months now. Up until recently, it has been pretty infrequent, not lasting long, and hasn't felt too bad. But lately it's been pretty frequent and driving my CRAZY when I try to sleep. It's always worse at night, but it does happen during the day. Has anyone else experienced this feeling, and what (if anything) did you do to alleviate it?

It's like I can't sit or lay still! It's driving me nuts, and Hubby and I are getting practically no sleep because of it. At first I kinda figured it was just my hips loosening up for delivery, but this is ridiculous! I can't sleep more than 2 hours at a time anyway, but for the last couple of weeks, I'm lucky to get that! I keep forgetting to ask my doc since it hasn't been too bad or that frequent, but I'm definitely going to bring it up at my next appt.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I slept in a recliner at the end of my pregnancies. That was the only way I could sleep and breathe.

I am so sorry. I feel for ya. I had restless legs which was out of control with pregnancy. With each pregnancy it got worse. I'm not sure if any of these suggestions will help with the hips, but worth a try! What usually happened was that I would find something that seemed to help, but it didn't always last. But, any relief was welcomed!! Some of the things that seemed to help me were to exercise(doing calf raises by the side of the bed was my go-to routine). I also made sure I was hydrated - of course the more I drank, the more I had to use the bathroom, but it was better than laying in bed, thinking I was losing my ever-lovin' mind!! One thing that seemed to work the most, was to have my husband massage my hands. He must have been hitting some sort of pressure point, because that helped more than anything else. Sometimes (with the earlier pregnancies), I would take a bath right before bed. That also relaxed me and would sometimes do the trick. I wish you the best of luck with finding something to help you. Good luck and congratulations on the pregnancy!

I had a similar thing when I was pregnant except it was in my back. I felt like I really needed to stretch or something and I couldn't sleep or lay still! The only thing that I could do was get up and find something to do to take my mind off of it until it would go away and then I could go to sleep. It doesn't sound like that would work for you :( Fortunately though, it went away once my baby was born (she's six weeks old now.) Hopefully yours will too!!

I have the same thing. I take tylenol as that is the only thing we can take. My doctor said that it is normal and it is the way the baby is laying. I have mine all the time and it is driving me crazy as well. It is also VERY hard to get relief, unless someone else has an idea.

Do you have a body pillow to sleep with? I used one of those to put between my knees and it helped..

I had this horribly and my midwife had me up my magnesium. It took care of the problem. Ask your ob/gyn how much you can take....I would just start out with it as a supplement. I think I was doubling the dosage for relief.

Here's a good link with dosages for pregnant women listed also:

Make sure you are super hydrated as well.

I always have a really bad problem with this at the end of my pregnancies too. I always do a lot of tossing and turning and don't get a whole lot of sleep either. I have found that a large fluffy body pillow between my knees to keep my legs spread apart helps a bit. My midwife also told me some women find sleeping face down with their knees/pelvis spread to be of relief. I never found this to be of much help but maybe you will.

I had this too, but only with my last pregnancy. I found walking helped to "loosen" things up. If I walked in the mornings then I slept better at night.

I've also read that if you can sleep in a recliner that may help take the pressure off your hip joints. I used 1000 pillows to prop myself up at night in bed, running pillows under my tush and hips. It helped a bit.

Never heard of the supplement help. Wish I would have known that one!

I had terrible restless leg for the majority of my second pregnancy. The only thing that I found that gave me any relief was to lay on my back and "bicycle" my legs until I was either exhausted or the feeling abated enough for me to get some sleep. I am sure I looked rediculous; glad I don't have any home videos of that! Don't know if this would help you. The good news is that you're near the end! Good luck.
