My doctor wouldn't let us start till she was 6 months old.
If your baby is still hungry I say your the mom do what's best. Since this is your second child you have more experince and you know what is right and wrong.

My son was not satisfied with just formula early, early on (probably 3 months or so) and I did start giving him cereal at night. The doctors didn't like it, but I didn't care. He was hungry and it worked.

As long as you introduce one food at a time, you shouldn't have any problems with allergies. It seems at that age the best way is to just add a TBSP of cereal to one bottle a day. You can gradually increase after that. We did, and when our son was 4 months, made a bowl of cereal for his breakfast.

I dont think there is any real scientific proof taht starting solid foods early or late causes allergies or any other thing.

That being said... You said you are anxious to start the baby on food. WHY????

All of the babies nutrition for the first year comes from breastmilk or formula...

Solid foods are just practice for eating. If you let the baby fill up on solid foods he will not be getting enough nutrition or calories to grow properly..

I started my son on cereal at 5 months.. and it was just a small amount once a day for more than a month..

Dont rush it - they grow up fast.. before you know it he will be eating french fries!!!

Starting too early puts him at risk for allergies and also diabetes. I know you really want to feed him, but wait until he's 4 mos.

Good morning S., my doctor started both of my youngest boys on cereal when they were 3 weeks. Both of them were not satisfied with breast milk and/or formula alone.Neither of them have any problems regarding food. My personal belief is that if they are going to have food allergies, they are going to have them! All of my children were eating from the table and on whole milk by the age of one and none of them suffered any allergies to foods. By the way, they are 29, 27, 23, 21, 17, and 16. Hope this helps, L. S.

If you do decide to do this, do NOT put cereal in his bottle. It creates a choking hazard.

Why are you so anxious to start cereal now? Babies don't need anything but breastmilk/formula for a year. Actually I hope you are breastfeeding, it is best for you and baby. It is true that introducung anything else could set your baby up for allergies. One response said there is no proof this is true but I have to say, when my girls were little, hearing about ANY child having an allergy to say...peanuts which is so common now was unheard of. I think it is due to babies being fed "food" too early. What are the signs he is ready for cereal? After 3 children, I wouldn't know what those signs are! I would wait.
