hey moms
well i am 33 weeks and stuc k on bed rest in the hospital. All the nurses and the doctors say most likely I will be here until i deliver. Why am I here? well because my amniotic fluid is low, and my baby is measuring 2 weeks behind in growth. I had one of those 3d ultrasounds done and the dr said her abdomen is measuring small... what does that mean???? I would really love to hear about other moms experiences who have been through this before.... Am I really going to be here until I deliver? What are my chances of the fluid improving?? does this mean im going to deliver early? All the nurses just say it depends.. and they are waiting for my next ultrasound. any advice?? thanks moms

What can I do next?

Hi AidensMama-

I have no clue about your particular issue...and it sounds as if the 'medical' folks are telling you that THIS is where you need to be...

PLEASE know...as frustrating as it is...that YOU are doing the BEST / hardest 'work' you can by allowing your little one EVERY extra day/hour/minute inside of YOU!!

Relax...EAT...watch TV...have someone bring you knitting/crocheting/needlework etc...(and TEACH you how to do it if need be)...

I am sending good thoughts and prayers for you and 'little one'...

Do what you must to let 'little one' get bigger...

BUT...at 33 weeks...although not 'optimal'...little one should do well...

Best Luck!!

Just wanted to say hang in there. That must be so hard but will be so worth it once you have your new little one in your arms. Remember that "this too shall pass."

I was in the same situation 4 years ago. I was monitored twice a weeks for my fluid level and was on a drug to stop contractions (which I had never felt). They also said my son's abdomen was measuring small compared with the rest of him. They ended up inducing me at 37 weeks and my son was 4 pounds, 15 ounces. I am 5'2 and my husband is 5'8". Our son is just a small kid. He just turned 4 on Sunday and just tipped the scales at 30 pounds.
I did drink over a gallon of water a day and a some Gatorade. Nothing seemed to improve things for me.
Sit tight and enjoy your peaceful time. Read books, watch tv, indulge yourself now. Pick out your birth announcements if you feel the need to do something - laptops and iPads are wonderful:).
RELAX, it is the best thing you can do for your little girl!

My daughter has type 1 diabetes, developed toxemia, and spent about 4 weeks in the hospital. She then had to be induced and delivered 5 weeks early. But baby turned out fine, and just turned 4 yrs old last weekend. So, I understand what youre facing time wise, and suggest you catch up on scrap booking if you do any at all. The hospitals usually understand a long term "guest" and will try to get you into the best room, and least ammount of room mates, and let your friends/family bring stuff to keep you busy. A portable DVD player with movies you want is a great idea. Computer is a possibility too. Books, magazines, and your own comfy jammies. Dont be afraid to ask about these things. Get to know the nurses on each shift and you might find one you really click with and ask her to be your nurse that day of delivery. My daughter did this and had a nicer experience than she might have with one of the surly gals who never wanted to discuss anything or believe her when she said she needed more insulin. So, hang in there,, they will keep you as long as your baby needs.

ASK your Doctor.
They SHOULD HAVE explained all of this, to you.
If not, then ask them ALL of your questions.

Ask the Doctor. NOT the Nurses.
Only your Doctor, knows your condition.

I agree... the doctor should be explaining this very specifically to you (not the nurses.. insist on talking to the doc).

Call to set up a phone conference with your doctor. .and write down all your questions in advance (take notes, or tell your doctor you'd like to tape record the conversation so you remember the instructions).

Ask everything you can possibly think of - but make sure you have the conversation with the doctor (don't let the nurses convince you they can address your concerns)

All the best to you
