Hello everyone, I thought I'd try to get some feedback from others who may have had a similar situation... For the past week I've had severe stomach pain and some burning...which also extends around my ribs and across the front near my belly button. I say stomach pain, b/c I guess it's reflux related. But it's only in the morning - no problem with eating at all throughout the day or night. I wake up then within 30 minutes it starts and lasts about 3 hours. I talked to the doctor's office and they recommended taking tums before bed. I did that and also took two more when I woke up. Had about 4ox of milk and nothing else. But the pain is back despite these efforts. I also propped myself up with extra pillows last night thinking that would help. Does this sound like heartburn or reflux to anyone or maybe something else. I wonder if Im not describing the symptoms to my Dr. well enough. Maybe I need an Rx for a stronger remedy? Anyone experience anything like this? btw this is baby #3 and I didn't have this problem with either of the two previous babies.
Thanks for any suggestions!

What can I do next?

I had really bad reflux during the 2nd half of my 3rd pregnancy. My doctor told me I could take one of the OTC acid reducers, but unfortunately, I can't remember which one. Call your OB's office and tell them the TUMS isn't helping you- they'll tell you what's safe.
Congratulations!! :)

I had a lot of reflux and upset stomach with my pregnancies. Tums helped a little as did lying on my left side (stomach is diagonal in the body) and eating saltines and a little bit of milk. But I would check with your doctor to be sure that is what it is.

have they checked you to be ABSOLUTELY certain that you're not having contractions? at 31 weeks, i'd want to rule that out before assuming it's reflux or indigestion.

aside from that, i had HORRID indigestion from water - i could drink just about anything else and be fine, but water was just painful - i had horrible pain up between my breasts though, not near my lower abdominal area.

idk, i'd first rule out labor - then i'd be looking at gallstones and things of a similar nature. if all is ruled out, then you may try out some dif meds for whatever your OB thinks you've got - but i'd def try to see my OB soon.

good luck!

After ruling out "the biggies", try changing your pre-natal vitamins. Worked like a charm for me. Good luck!

I had a similar issue w/ my 3rd baby. The docs kept telling me it was reflux or bad gas. It continued after I gave birth then a bit later the pain changed to a pain that felt like a heart attack. My hubby called 911 & even the paramedics thought heart attack...long story short - it turned out to be my gall bladder!! By then I had 20 stones & had to have it removed!! My surgeon said that A LOT of women end up w/ gall bladder issues especially after 2nd pregnancy but it's missed or misdiagnosed because some women have mild syptoms that are like acid reflux or bad gas! If you get pain by your chest & it feels like an elephant is trying to bust OUT of your chest & ribcage then you'll probably need to have it removed. Not trying to scare you but it's something to ask your doctor.
