My 3 yr old daughter never sucked her thumb until she went to a in home baby sitter for about 4 months, waiting for her spot at preschool to open. . Her daughter sucked, and I think she picked it up from there. She got off the passy quite quickly and was not a big issue. We don't like her tumb sucking. We also understand this is a self comfort issue. Anyone have any good idea's for her NOT to suck her tumb?

What can I do next?

My daughter is now fourteen and had been sucking her thumb since Pre-birth, our first sonogram showed her sucking her thumb. She did it to comfort herself and when she was tired. As she got older she would only do it before bed time, around trusted friends or when no one was looking. To make a long story short, she gave it up when she was ten. We never made a "Big Deal" of it because it brought her comfort. Trust me on this, don’t sweat the small stuff or make her feel guilty or she will just feel as she needs to hide it and be ashamed (as my daughter did when she went to the in-laws) She could not understand why people were so cruel when she was not doing anything to hurt anyone else. By the way, she has beautiful teeth. Love your daughter no matter what and this too will pass.

My daughter has been a thumb sucker since pre-birth. She is five now and only does it when she is tired. As well, she surrounds her self with various stuffed friends. She gets plenty of attention and just feels the need to suck her thumb.

It depends on how old your daughter is. There is a kids book called "Harold's Hideway Thumb" about a rabbit that tries to stop sucking his thumb. This was a good place to start for our daughter. Then we tried several ideas in the book as well as some that she came up with. She was ok during the day except for naps and bedtime. We used Thumb ( in the pharmacy area) to paint on her thumb. She was so afraid of what it may taste like that she never put it in her mouth. It worked for us.

My daughter was 2 when she picked this up we had baby #3 after she came home from the hospital daughter started to suck her thumb she is now 4 we have it under control what I did @ Walgreens in the baby section there is a product called Thumb for thumb & finger suckers I applied it a few times & she nolonger sucks her thumb I barely used it still have a full bottle not only that but on TLC there was a grown woman in her 20's that her addiction was thumb sucking it so happened she was watching this show with her dad & that also helped her stop sucking she didn't want to be grown & still suck her thumb she is ok with it, not sucking it anymore at first she cried when we pulled it away from her or told her to take it out of her mouth but now after all the crying she is fine. For you baby it may not be so easy she is a baby & babies like things in their mouths it is comfort if she takes a paci give that to her the paci will be alot easier to take away than her thumb will be only because it's not attached to her.Mittens are a good alternative to keep on her or socks but it has to be done all the time.I don't see anything wrong with thumb or finger sucking this early it is very normal for them to do this.
****How old is she I read it as she was 4 months old?****
