P.K.
Call pediatrician first and possibly a pediatric opthamologist. Start with
pedi first. Could just be she gets headaches. Is she overtired, dehydrated.
So many things it could be.
My daughter is turning 4 in a couple months and for the last 7 weeks she's complained on and off that her head hurt. It's hard to determine what is actually going on since she cant describe it for me. A week before it started we went camping. While we were camping we got swarmed with mosquitoes. Regardless of all the spray we put on she came home with lots of swollen bumps. Also while we were camping she was swinging on a swing and crashed into the tree. Leaving her lots of battle wounds on her face. 5 days after we got home from camping she came down with a fever and felt bad for 2 days. But then her fever went away and she seems fine. I'm not sure what it could be. Any ideas? I need to add that yesterday for the first time she said her eyes hurt. Could these headaches be from poor eyesight? Where do I start? Optometrist? family doctor?

Hi Bttrfly,
Poor little girl! Well my 4 year old has complained about headaches on and off for the past few months. I asked her PCP at her well check-up about them and she told me it is either allergies or dehydration. I had suspected dehydration and I usually have her drink water when she complains of a headache and it helps. Since it's been a hot summer little kids don't drink enough water & can get headaches. With your daughter I would start by talking with your PCP, they can also check her eyes there and check her for an injury from her swing crash. I hope this helps. Take Care.
I would start with your family doctor (make sure he knows about the skeeters - although if she got west nile she has a light case or she'd be WAY sicker by now.... so you don't need to worry AT ALL).
Did you double double triple triple triple check her for ticks? Like places you might not think of... although I'm not sure how long ticks can survive.... 7 weeks seems excessive to me.
The doc can do an eye exam and refer her to a eye dr if necessary.
Ask her what kind of headache..... does it feel like the dog is laying on her head.... or does it feel like her older brother is hitting her? Where does it hurt (front, sides, back, neck, all over?), does it make it better to go in a dark room? All that will be good info for the Dr.
It's possible that it's a stress reaction.
It's possible that it's allergies.
sounds like a trip to the doctor is warrented, also an eye exam.
when my kids have headaches they generally need an adjustment with the chiropractor or two.
But you sound like you need a more confident ruling of what might be wrong and I don't blame you! But yes we get headaches in the household even my four year old son and the chiropractor tends to do the trick.
I'm so sorry your daughter is suffering from headaches. Her headaches could be from several different things. It could be from some type of insect bites, from crashing into the tree, allergies (environmental or food) or sinus problems, dehydration or a multitude of other things. I think the best place to start is with her doctor. If her eyes are bothering her it's not a bad idea to have her eyes checked too, but I would start with the doctor first. Good luck.
I would begin at home with keeping her hydrated & well rested.Call the family dr. or pediatrician, you can also schedule for her eyes to be examined there is a lot that they can see behind the eyes that we can't it could be from all the things listed above or soemthing more serious or not.But after the first few days of a headache that is off & on to me 7 weeks is too long to wait to question my childs headaches.
Call your pediatrician and make a appointment. That bothers me with all the mosquito and head injury. You just never know and 7 weeks is a long time. Start there and then maybe a chiropractor? She may be out of line? Good luck and I hope she feels better.
Take her to the Dr and possibly to a neurologist. She may have a sinus issue or infection--hence why her eyes and head hurt.
