3 Yr Old Bumped His nose...really Hard

My kids were playing at Chick-Fila today and, although I didn't see if happen (I heard it), my son stepped off the bottom stepped and fell into the glass wall that separates the play area from the restaurant. He hit the glass with his face. Luckily, his teeth are intact and there was no bleeding. However, his nose was really red and it's still red 2-2.5 hours later. His nose has not bled and it doesn't look deformed and I can touch it. Should I be concerned? Is there anything to watch for? Should I do something for it? THis is a first of this type of injury for us so I'm at a loss. I'm guessing we will see a lot more nose injuries when he is in sports :-)

What can I do next?

I agree it is probably OK. My almost 3-yr old did something similar and I took him to the pedi since it was within their hours. His nose did bleed a lot and had a cut across the bridge. They said there was not much they could do since the cut did not need to be stitched. His was red, later purplish, and months later a small scar. But all in all he's fine and I feel (or fear!) the same as you - the first of many!

Sounds fine. My three year old just mashed the bridge of his nose last week. He got a serious puncture gash AND he was gushing blood from inside his nose. The doctor told me to take him for x ray because it was bleeding from inside his nose as well as from the cut. He also got stitches. The x ray showed no cracks THANK GOODNESS, because it was a HARD HARD hit. If your son's didn't bleed I think it's OK. The only way to know for sure is an x ray.

My 11 month old is a rough and tumble boy, constantly hitting himself in the face or on the head (he just learned to walk). He might be upset for a minute or two, but he is always fine. If your son isn't complaining, I wouldn't worry about it.

If he is not any different or vomiting, he really should be fine. You just want to look for pupils that expand but don't contract, are really dilated, or are different sizes (hold a flashlight to his face), vomiting, or odd behavior.

I am amazed at the hits and falls my son takes. His first was at 7 months, and he hasn't looked back. Kids are much more tough then me!!
