Hello, and good Morning,
My son just turned three and lately he has been wanting to wear my high heeled shoes everywhere!!!!!
I really dont know what to think now. it really bothers my husband and at first i thought he was just being curious. Has this happened to you? Any input or suggestions or experiences you might have to share with me Please DO!!...Frankly, i am starting to doubt the whole "curious" thing. Thank you.

What can I do next?

My brother, a Dallas cop and all guy, would wear my mother's shoes around the house all the time when he was that age until he was nearly 4. It is just pretend play. They don't understand the difference between Mommy shoes and Daddy shoes at that time. They look at them as a challenge like stilts.

It's a completely normal phase that all little boys go through. I have three boys... the oldest two have already been through that. They loved the noise that wearing my shoes made (SO loud on wood floors!). But they are over it and they are still 110% boys!

All my kids loved wearing my shoes... I have two boys and a girl, I think they just like how it feels. My sons would wear their grandpa's work boots too... I think it has something to do with them being so big, tell your husband to chill, that there is nothing wrong with it...His little guy will be "all boy" one day. I think husbands take things so wrong, I have one that does too, still haven't told him that his son loves riding in the pink butterfly at Albertson's... lol

My little brother went through a phase for about a year at that age in which he loved to wear high heels. He outgrew it, and now is a well-adjusted 21 year old who does NOT cross-dress. Just laugh, take pictures (great for blackmail in high school) and wait for the phase to pass.

Good luck!

how funny and cute that must be...take a picture...when he is a star football player in high school you can embarasss him with it!!
Seriously...I have the two most masculane, handsome baby brothers ever!!.. and they both liked to play dress up with moms stuff when they were little.
It is just curiosity...but at 3 he is old enough to sense daddy's angst and he likes getting a rise out of him...so he will keep it up til he no longer gets any feed back.
He might like the view from up there as well, but I doubt he is leaning toward any tendencies you obviously are not going to be happy with. Relax...and if you really don't want him playing with your shoes, put them up so he can't get to them. I personally spend waaayyy too much on shoes to let my kids play in them.
Hope this helps...he is still a baby...have fun with it!

I think he does it just because you do. Both of my boys have done this and there is no harm that has come of it. Just because he wears your stuff doesn't nesisarilly mean that he's going to be "gay". Don't worry about it.My 10 year old stopped wearing my stuff and carrying his sisters purses when he was about 4 and my youngest is 2 and he hasn't finished with all of it yet, but it will come.

My 2 y/o son loves to wear my shoes. He also likes to put on make up with my mom (he just gets a brush...no real make up!). And he tells me he has a baby in his belly (I'm 9 months pregnant). It's nothing to worry about! He also loves to do everything his daddy does. I take it as a form of flattery that he wants to be like us:)

If you think that is strange my 4 yr-old comes into our bedroom in the dead of night and searches until he finds my wife's boots and then brings them back into his bed and sleeps with them!

Weird or what!?

My son always wore my mom's heels-he loved the noise they made walking on laminate flooring. He also had a play kitchen and a baby with a stroller. One of my girls is all into Spiderman and cars. This is completely normal behavior.

Hi M.,
This is SO normal. Children learn in time about the difference in sexes. Now it's just fun to dress like anyone including mommy. Please never make a big deal of this or you will create something that's confusing or may show up later with his behavior. No biggie mom.
Best Regards,
C.

It's the noise they may and how floppy they feel. Funny how guys flip out on this stuff :) Think how boring their shoes are LOL and how cool heels are - so much different from every other shoe.

My twin boys are four now and they both went through this...they wore heels, flip flops, tennis shoes, whatever...they just liked the bigger shoes I think. They don't really do it so much anymore....now they love to sit on the bathroom counter while daddy shaves...he puts a little bit on them and then uses the back of the shaver to rake it off....if it bothers you and your husband that much, just make sure dad is engaging in some manly demonstrations like that, too. Your son will figure it all out very soon and you'll be telling his wife one day how he pranced around the house in your high heels :-)

First of all, I agree with everyone else that he is just having fun.

Regardless, though... it is your (and your husband's) job to love him no matter what! That is what you signed up for when you got the gift of a child. Your little boy may not grow up and have the future that you imagine for him, but that means absolutely nothing. You just give him the love and the tools to help him make his way through life and he will grow into a wonderful man.

On top of all of this... enjoy your little one... every day with your child is a gift.

I've got 3 boys who have all gone through that- each one of them loved to wear my shoes! My daughter is the only one who still does it now though! It will last for a little while, but you have to remember- shoes are fun to a little kid! Buy some fun slippers for you son if you are really concerned- make sure he can put them on by himself. And it's okay to tell him your shoes are off limits(no those are mommies shoes, let's go find your shoes to wear)
My husband was concerned at first when it was our first son who started doing it, but by the time our third was tropming around in my shoes, he was fine with it because it's something they out grow!

Don't worry about it. Me and my brother used to dress up in my mom's cloths and her shoes. And there is nothing wrong with him. At 3 they still are still inocent. And that's not something you want to take from him. We are the ones that have a warped since of thinking.

He will grow out of it.

Good luck and God bless!!!

M.,

Please stop worrying! It really is just his being curious and trying to learn more about his world. Your high heels are very different from his shoes and daddy's shoes. He's trying to figure out that difference. And, quite frankly, it's fun to be up high! All three of my children did this. My daughter is all girl and my boys are all guy! He's just having fun!

Oh how awful. I've never heard of a child doing anything so awful in my life. ;) just kidding of course.

My son loves to play with women's shoes. When he puts them on, he calls them "crashing shoes" and loves to simulate these sort of falling down crashes. It has nothing to do with sexuality if that's what's making your husband uncomfortable. He doesn't know they're a "girl" thing -- nor does he, or should he, care at this age. I agree -- it's the sound and the novelty of it all. Boy shoes are so boring. Is it any wonder they find our shoes so much more interesting?

LOL...I have 3 boys ages 3, 4 and 8. Trust me when I say there is nothing to worry about and I doubt it has anything to do w/ curiosity but it is FUN! We have playgroups and when we go to a girls house the only things my boys are interested in mainly is dress up (Princess dress, heels, tiaras, the works), the kitchen, the babies etc...why...b/c we don't have any! The first things the girls do here at our house it put on a tool belt and a hard hat and grab the trucks w/ the biggest tires and go to town. It is simply fun! If I were 3 again and had to chose between my plain sneakers and my moms pretty, high heels in different colors (not to mention to awesome and loud clipity clop sound on the tile they make)I would defiantly go for the "fun" ones. My suggestion is pay no attention, he is a baby, he is playing, to him it is fun and different. A suggestion if he likes to dress up or wear fun shoes is after Halloween when all the costumes go on sale, go buy a few extra for him so when he is looking at your shoes you can say hey, go put on your dinosaur costume. Another quick suggestion is if all your shoes are in your closet then childproof the doorknob so he cannot open it. Good Luck!
