3 Year Old Snoring Since an Illness 3 Weeks Ago

My almost 4 year old had a bad virus on New Year's Eve/Day that resulted in a fever, runny nose and a bad cough that kept her up at night for a few days. The cough went away during the day but she still had it at night for a couple of weeks, but after the first few days she slept fine and only coughed in her sleep sporadically. She has been fine during the day, eating and sleeping great. I've noticed that she still snores a lot at night, almost like she still has post-nasal drip, but it isn't making her cough. She isn't having trouble breathing, but as soon as she lays down and falls asleep she seems very congested. Is this residual from the illness or should I be worried? She's not having any sleep apnea and it isn't waking her up at all.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! It's gotten a lot better the last two nights, but she's still snoring so we have a warm humidifier with lavender on one side of the room and a cool mist humidifier right next to the bed and that's making it easier for her to sleep. I've got the cough too, so I think it's just residual cold symptoms.

Hi L.,
Sounds exactly what ran through my family, too. Our daughter got sick Christmas and has had that same post-nasal drip for a few weeks now, this even after a round of antibiotics (the cold turned into an ear infection). Hubby and I eventually got it and we're dealing w/ the post-nasal drip going on two weeks now. Lots of throat-clearing in our house over the last month or so! :)

It is probably the season and I have no doubt that it is residual cold symptoms. Put a humidifier in her room if you haven't already. I forgot what they are called but there is a gauge out there available to test moisture levels in her room to be sure it isn't too dry. Also, try a vapor plug for the wall which will help her breathe. If she still has congestion within a week's time I'd have her Pediatrician double check. The air is real dry right now so extra moisture will help. My kids are all a little congested now too :)

Hi L., this sounds like what our family is dealing with. We have been congested well before new years and is still here with us. My 3 year old son snored like mad every night. We finally took him in and they decided it was a sinus infection, gave us some amoxicillin and sent us on our way. He cleared up a bit and now it's back to his congested snoring ways. I'm at a loss as well. Our whole family is sick with the same thing and I feel as if it's never leaving. I know so many people dealing with this right now so your not alone. I am thinking maybe it's weather related. Who knows. Now, we are running the humidifier in hopes to get some relief.
Best of luck.

With my allergies - the worst times I get congested is just before bed time, middle of night and first thing in the morning
