My daughter is 3 and has had exema for as long as I have remember really. She never had a realy bad break-out. Usually in the summer months it would flair up in the crease of her arm or behind her knees really bad. She woke up yesterday and was fine we went to Bonkers and when we got home I noticed it was on her arm; All the way up and down her arm and on BOTH of her eyes. I put on elacon(sp?) and it is burning her a little and she is complaining and it is just killing me!! I want to make it go away and make it quit hurting! If this is her first flair up how do I keep it from happening all the time? Is there any OTC Lotion that I can use or detergent to stay away from? Any advice would be GREAT!! Thank you all A Mom in Need! I know this is long but I wanted to add that the exema is all over her face. Cheeks and eyes, her arms are coverd and so is the underpart of her armpit.

I am really late on this, but Aveeno has a new Eczema care lotion/cream. It works really well. I had a breakout all around my neck, and used it one time and felt so much relief. It says it's even gentle enough for babies, so I have tried it on my baby too.

I am an Arbonne Consultant and can give you a couple samples of our ABC Baby Care Line to try. The only way you know it something will work is to try it. I would stay away from products with animal product/by-products, mineral oil (as it acts as a barrier), lanolin, dyes and chemical fragrances. Please send me a private message with your contact information if you want to try the Baby Care LIne...I'd be happy to help you out. There is nothing worse than seeing your child suffer!!

I used all kinds of soaps and lotions and medicines and noting worked or irritated it more. Best thing that worked for me was hemp lotion. I got it from The Body Shop. I use it everyday after I take a shower. They say you need to keep the skin well hydrated. I've had maybe 2 breakouts in 2 years and both time was when I was sick (maybe I was dehydratred).

Try Eucerin cream. It comes in a tub and you can buy it at the drug store or Wal-Mart. Don't get the lotion in the pump because it certainly isn't as thick. It's sticky so you may want to try it at night, but it works for me and my son! Best wishes to you!

I am a mother of twins who had exema. One of which looked like a baby leapord. I started using St. John's Wort Salve on him and over the next year it went from him looking like a leapord to just having a patch on each foot. I also made sure to give him plenty of foods that are high in the omegas (good fat). Now he is 8 and you can't tell he ever had exema. No scars at all. Although we still have to watch how much he's scratching b/c he still welts up with that.

I can only tell you that my son was born with it and here is what we do. We tried everything from Arbonne to ??? and the bottom line is some things will work for a while and some will work in combination and some won't work for your child. Changing all the time. I'm sorry to have to say that.
My son wears EVERYTHING 100% cotton... we went to a great Pediatric Allergist with Cook's Childrens (Dr. Tremblay) in Ft. Worth. It helped to know what he is allergic to.
We switched to mostly natural cleaners at home.
Here is what we use:
Aveeno Lotion (Several kinds), but the BABY (light blue cap) on his face as that is the only one that doesn't sting him.
Aveeno Bath (baby)
Aveeno Oatmeal Bath
Aquaphor
Cortizone10 Ointment not cream
Elidel
Hylira
and there is another prescription that is new and I can't remember the name

For us NOTHING else has worked.
GOOD LUCK! I hope you soon find the combo that works for you.
AND, when something burns her, please get her in the bath and wash it off. That is the only thing I can say to do.

Oh I'm so sorry! It's so hard to watch our children hurt! I don't have any experince with eczema but my best friend has three boys that have had it. I know that I recommend a product called Resinol to her and it really helped alot. I used it on my first son when he had a mysterious rash for months and nothing worked on it but for this stuff. You can get at Walgreen's though I don't think that they carry it in the store (I had them special order it) but I sure would try and call and ask since you need something soon. I'm sure you could find it on line as well. I'll bet that you will get alot of replies on here that I hope will help your little girl though this break out.

All 3 of my boys had SEVERE eczema as well. They had actually maxed out on the steroid dosage that their dermatologist would give them. Eczema is a symptom. You need to figure out what her triggers are. I thought my boys' triggers were food allergies. However ,they were tested for food, pet, and environmental allergies and nothing came up. Then we started looking at what we were exposing them to in the home (cleaning, laundry, bath, & body products). We learned through process of elimination that strong chemicals such as formaldehyde, bleach, ammonia, & phosphates are triggers for our boys. Once we started using stuff without those chemicals, within 3 weeks their skin was completely clear. Look into it and let me know if you have any questions!

Hi M.,

It looks like you are getting lots of information at once, and everyone has a story. My daughter is 4 and she has had eczema since she was 5 weeks old. It started on her face and is now concentrated on her arms and legs. Nothing has totally helped us, but there is a combination of things that we use to try and keep it at bay.

- Meleleuca Renew lotion (it doesn't help us by itself, but when used with the other products, I like it.)
- bathing every other night (using mild soap like cetaphil or aveeno or dove) (No Johnson's products.)
- Protopic cream on her eyelids and face when we have breakouts. (we don't have to use it every day)
- Triamcynalone cream on her arms and legs (only on affected areas). When it clears up, we just use the lotion for a while until it comes back again.
- my dr. recommended to stop using dryer sheets in the laundry. I also use Melaleuca's detergent, but didn't really notice a change in anything.
- one of my friends also recommeded bathing the child only in Epsom salt. He says it works like a charm, but I have never had to resort to that. (I have a one year old and don't really want to bathe her in saltwater, since I bathe the girls together).

We have been through the whole scenario as well, and it can be very frustrating.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Oh, we have a great pediatric Dermatologist in Grapevine. Dr. Fred Ghali. He is really good and thorough.

Unfortunately, what I have told you are his recommendations for eczema. Nothing has changed, but he can help you with prescriptions if you need them.

Good luck,
Jennifer

M.,

I completely understand your frustration. My 3 year old has bad eczema too. I have seen all sorts of doctors about it, but have her under the care of a great Chiropractic Neurologist. What he has helped us with is certain foods that actually flair it up. We have eliminated wheat, most sugars, cow dairy and pineapples. That has helped, but it still comes and goes now and then. Sometimes it is so bad that she claws herself until she bleeds. He has this soap that I put on it with some water, just patting it on her skin and letting it seep in. Here is a link for it. http://store.nutribiotic.com/pgi-Product%20Spec?1026

It is very affordable and is free of dyes and stuff. It is a "nonsoap" and is GREAT at making bubbles which she likes and it smells good. Not perfumy, just clean. I just add a drop of it to a couple of ounces of water and just smooth it on the itchy spots. I have a little bottled mixed on hand all the time.

The other thing he tells me to use on her to help heal the outbreaks is bag balm. It is traditionally used on cow's udders and you can get it at Walgreens in the skin care section. It is in a square green tin can.

I hope that helps. Feel free to call or email if you need other tips. We've tried other things, but these are the ones that really work. Let me know if you want the name of the doctor too. He's GREAT with children!

Hi M.,
I totally know what you are going through. I have SEVERE eczema. Most of mine is caused from food allergies, but is aggrevated by my cleaners, soaps, ect. I was recently introduced to a line of products that are free of harsh chemicals and the best lotion I have ever used. I used to use gobs of eucerine and put gloves on at night, and still used topical steroids as well. Now I use Renew from Melaleuca. It has exceded my expectations. I have only been using it for about a week, but my eczema is nearly all cleared up (without topical steroids)! That is amazing for me to be able to say. Anyway, I would love to get you more information about the Renew and the other wonderful, safe products Melaleuca has. I hope that helps. Have a great night, and I look forward to hearing from you.

You need to definitely take her to a dermatolgist, in the meantime, I would say bath her in Oatmeal..yes oatmeal. Some bath treatments have oatmeal in it. But it will help her skin and I'm sure its itchy so I would definiltey give her some Bendaryl, it will make her drowsy but it will stop the itching. Make her an appt soon, maybe her Pedi can recommend a dermtolgist.
