Hi M.,
It looks like you are getting lots of information at once, and everyone has a story. My daughter is 4 and she has had eczema since she was 5 weeks old. It started on her face and is now concentrated on her arms and legs. Nothing has totally helped us, but there is a combination of things that we use to try and keep it at bay.
- Meleleuca Renew lotion (it doesn't help us by itself, but when used with the other products, I like it.)
- bathing every other night (using mild soap like cetaphil or aveeno or dove) (No Johnson's products.)
- Protopic cream on her eyelids and face when we have breakouts. (we don't have to use it every day)
- Triamcynalone cream on her arms and legs (only on affected areas). When it clears up, we just use the lotion for a while until it comes back again.
- my dr. recommended to stop using dryer sheets in the laundry. I also use Melaleuca's detergent, but didn't really notice a change in anything.
- one of my friends also recommeded bathing the child only in Epsom salt. He says it works like a charm, but I have never had to resort to that. (I have a one year old and don't really want to bathe her in saltwater, since I bathe the girls together).
We have been through the whole scenario as well, and it can be very frustrating.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Oh, we have a great pediatric Dermatologist in Grapevine. Dr. Fred Ghali. He is really good and thorough.
Unfortunately, what I have told you are his recommendations for eczema. Nothing has changed, but he can help you with prescriptions if you need them.
Good luck,
Jennifer
