I was wondering if anyone knew of any problems that could arrise for a 3 year old to be eating pureed food. She also eats almond butter and jelly sandwiches, bananas, any sweets that you can imagine. Is there a concern for that. The pureed food is really thick and it is very healthy food like lentils sweet potatoes brocli asparagas. Thanks for the advice Just wondering for a friend.

What can I do next?

I would not be alarmed. She is getting the nutrition. Don't worry, it is probably her just wanting to be different in SOME capacity.
Kids are such fun critters that way....they are such tiny adults in their way of thinking. Let her flex her wings. She is the younger of the two twins, right? Just curious.

Hi K.,
I don't think there's anything wrong with making sure your child is eating something their not going to choke on, however, they should be eating whole foods by now also. I have a 3 year old and rather then puree his food, if I am uneasy about the size of what he is eating, I cut it more finely. They have to learn to chew it themselves. If your daughter is refusing food that is not pureed I would be checking into it with her doctor. There might be something more to it.

I'd guess you've tried giving her whole foods. What is her response? If she's unable to chew and swallow then there may be something wrong.

Have you tried only serving whole foods for several days until she eats it. She may refuse at first but if she's able to eat them she eventually will because she is hungry. Perhaps she likes it pureed and if that is OK with you then continue doing it.

Have you looked at her throat. Is it red and irritated? Are her tonsils small enough to allow food to go thru?

This is way out in left field but does she talk. My grandson had difficulty with eating and wasn't talking by 3 and he is diagnosed with speech apraxia meaning that the messages from his brain don't get to the muscles in his mouth. And there is sensory processing diorder in which kids stuff their mouths full so that they can feel the food. And on the other end there are kids who ar overly sensitive to any kind of touch. Kids with sensory processing disorder can also talk. My grandson's reactions are what I best know about.

Sometimes little ones have food texture sensitivity and just like how one texture feels better than a mish mash of texture. As long as she's eating enough and healthy in other ways I don't think you have anything to worry about.
