My friends 3 year old son loves to bite people. My friend has tried different things to get him to stop (IE: spanking him, time out, yell, talking to him, even used a bar of soap in his mouth) NOTHING is working... Do you mom's have any other suggestions that I can give her...

What can I do next?

i like all the previous suggestions. Do you have any ideas why he bites? is it anger or just a sensory input need maybe? .
whatever the reason, maybe tying an object on string that can go on as a necklace might work; Tell him when the urge to bite comes to bite on the object that is hanging around his neck and that is the ONLY thing he can bite.
you will be redirecting the behavior which is good and afte a while when his need to do that stops you can just remove the object.
have him choose the object too; and give him power of choice; remind him a lot during the day, before going out, before going into a shop that is the expectation. THe best of luck.

Dear Kristy G,

I had a daughter who loved biting her brother. I had tried everything too, until I was told to bite her finger. I did that lightly a few times after she would bite him. She eventually stopped biting him. Just bite his finger lightly so he cries and tell him that's not nice and it hurts. He will stop sooner or later.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck!

I know this may seem mean, but I've heard of friends with the same problem and the only thing that worked for them was to bite back! Of course only hard enough to get his attention, if he knows how much he's hurting others he may change his behavior. Good luck!

this might sound harsh but hot sauce. We used it (just a drop or two) on our child when he was about that age. It only took that first time to get him to stop. It wasnt really hot, i think it was the mild sauce from taco bell and like i said just one or two drops and that was it. He didnt like it at all and if he tought about bitting again we would say "do you want me to get the hot sauce?" and he wouldnt do it. Thats my suggestion. Let us know what your friend decided to do ok.
